GTASA: Liberty City

Many had requested a new thread, as a brand new Beta version of the mod had been released in a relatively outdated forum thread.

History:
Beta 5.0 incoroporates many new features, including some that were lost from previous Beta versions (for reasons unknown). The most welcome addition to Beta 5.0 is a complete set of car paths - so this time it's actually Liberty City! Beta 5's creation emerged after many users had difficulties in installing updates & fixes released for the previous Beta (4.0) in the form of Update Packages, consisting of 1, 2 and 3.

Description:
Beta 5.0 includes the entire Liberty City map by XRK, as well as the the underwater seabed created by jcab42 for the GTA:Liberty City mod, which has been an encouraging source of inspiration for the continuation of this mod. This mod will not only have the great setting of GTA3, but will include the great features present in San Andreas, such as Interiors, Bikes & Helicopters/Planes, Gambling, Properties, Customisation and so much more. Frequently Asked Quesions (FAQ):
In the previous Beta's thread, many questions were repeatedly asked over and over, hence its considerable length. That's why I've added this section, so that SA:LC mod users can check here before asking their question.

Q. Will there be other properties or hideouts to buy?
A. Yes. This is a San Andreas feature we hope to add eventually.

Q. Can we have higher-poly models for ... ?
A. No. This is not a current priority. This will be done once we've sorted the GTA3 stuff first. Check out the additional mod 'Untold Stories' if you want these.

Q. Will M-57's cars be included?
A. No. We have asked, but have been waiting for almost 2 years now. So it seems unlikely.

Q. Will there be shopping, eating as well as player customisation?
A. Yes. This is a San Andreas feature we hope to add eventually.

Q. Can I get to San Andreas? Will San Andreas ever be added?
A. No. The SA map was removed for the purpose of this mod.

Q. What do I download? How do I install it?
A. The latest release (Version 4) requires the previous installation of Version 3 as well as the patch. Here are some short instructions:

  • If you are on a default San Andreas (1.00/1.010 [EU/US]) download Beta 5 Version 3.
  • Extract the contents of the RAR file to your SA root directory, confirming all replacement questions.
  • Then download the Patch file provided, and once again extract the RAR contents to your SA root directory, confirming replacements.
  • Now download and save Beta 5 Version 4 (this requires Version 3 and the patch to have been previously installed).
  • Extract the RAR file's contents to your SA root directory, confirming all replacements.
  • Alternatively -> Download and extract the combo package contents.
Q. Will there be a new storyline/characters?
A. No. There will only be the original GTA3 missions, with possibly some extra ones. The Untold Stories mod features new storyline and characters.

Q. I've possibly found a bug. What do I do?
A. Unless the bug you have found is really out of the ordinary, then chances are it's already known about, so it's best to keep it to yourself. If however, you do think it isn't obvious, then either post in this thread or PM me directly. While bug reports are appreciated, the vast majority of them are obvious and are being worked on using a priority system.

Q. Where are the missions?
A. Marty Chonk's missions are available from the phone booth across from Joey's Garage between the hours of 9:00 and 19:00. Paramedic missions are available by entering an Ambulance and pressing 2 (default). The 'Gripped!' mission is available by entering the Patriot in the park in Shoreside Vale at any time.

In time this FAQ will be updated, so check back occasionally.

Reported Bugs/Glitches/Incompletes:
- Some of the car traffic is the wrong direction > To be fixed.
- Collisionless seafloor and tall skyscrapers > models need redone to suit SA's .col dimension limitations
- Unusual camera angles at savegarages > needs scripting

Recruitment:
Currently, there are just a few devs working on the mod, but more are coming back following the mod's revivial post-Beta 5. However, the limited team could use some talentented folk like yourself to ease the workload a tad. If you can do any of the following, and are interested, let us know!

1. Cutscene animations and/or animations: this would require experience with .ifp, .cut and .dat files that San Andreas uses for cutscenes. If you worked in this area in the LC-mod (for VC) or have done so for San Andreas, let us know.
2. Main.scm Scripters: while I personally know enough to get me by, someone with experience in this field could sure come in handy.
3. Modellers/Texturizers: mainly conversion from GTA3->SA, like cars, peds etc.

INSTALLATION:
1. Extract contents of RAR package to your SA root directory, confirming over-writes.
2. If your version is EUR, open "hume.ini" located in cleo with Notepad (or similar text editor). Rename version US to version EUR and save.
3. Play.

personally, I like the stuff San Andreas has more than I like the stuff in Liberty City or Vice City. but if it were possible to make it so that we can sucessfully have all 3 maps together in one game, that would be so cool.

of course, there would be no bridge between the three. you'd have to boat or fly. or swim if you're in shape... Vice City is south of San Andreas. Liberty City is east. not north like that one mission has.

hello. im a modder of new york city. i got all buildings including the world trade center with the twin towers on high poly and detail (with interior) and low poly and the freedom trade center. and all new york buildings and bridges and the statue of liberty made on 3dmax. if u guys are interesed to put me in teh team. just let me know. i can give pics of my work on each buildings if u want too.

All the data that would still be flowing through from everything still running, even when the game loads in sections, would fry the game. Maybe if proper steps were taken as to decrease graphics quality and the draw distance, then maybe it may work. It would be nice to see all three sections working. I would love to be able to visit Liberty City, since I have only played San Andreas, Vice City, and Vice City Stories.

people, please dont download this, you can better buy GTA3... Then you have both GTA3 and GTA:SA and you dont have to re´nstall GTA:SA to turn it back to normal

This file (Beta 5 v0.5.4) is a definate must to download! its easy to install and works straight away!
The best way so that you dont have to reinstall san an again to put it back to normal (original) is to make multiple installs, Take the unmodded san an directory file in the rock* folder and copy it, then paste it into rock* folder, (this usually takes a while cos the file it so big) then there should be two files in the rock* folder!, the original san an, and a "copy of ", then just simply mod the "copy of " you can do this many times for different Total conversions! have fun, Happy modding!

I downloaded it. The menu is fine and all the fonts are there. I start a new game and BOOM! I windows pops up and says that GTA SA has encountered a problem and needs to close. Any help?

I tried it and it works fine but there are no peds or other cars. I had to blow up a bunch of cars for the police to finally show up on foot, but other than that no peds.

#9, #10, and #14 in particular, are you seriously going to hate a mod that adds the ability to fly, motorbike, and climb walls? Not to mention the incredible increase in particle and texture over the original GTA3! When this thing gets missions, you're gonna come crawling back, begging for forgiveness.

Wow, all these problems and no one tries to help. Sorry dude, but LOTS of people are having problems, for one the awesome epic most terrible crash that most people have been having, sorry nothing against you or this mod but if you want to make a great mod, you need to start helping people with there problems. Normally i would say its there computer but too many people have reported the same problems. I have tried this mod and it has not worked, i even reinstalled the game to see, but it did not work, i tried the map cleaner, it did not work, it seemed to only erase one file and crash after that. Cool mod and all but a little for help for these people who are having problems.

I seen everyone was having problems on this mod so i downloaded it from another site im not suppose to cause of the rules so if you want to know where just email me and ill tell you but if your running on v2.0 of SA and you downgraded to a v1.1 then you will need to remove saloader,saweapons,d3d9.dll, stream, saex
saweapons are placed into the root directory when they should be placed in the data folder so i think it could be just a copy or something. this is what i took out before starting the game up and it started and loaded fine then i got hit by a car and it froze if i can get it running anymore than that i'll post on here about it even though last person to post was last month but still for the ones who r just starting with mods
