New MINI Cooper for GTA: Vice City on the PC (this version NOT for GTA3)

Converted by Jonathan Mace (jon@gamemods.fsnet.co.uk) from an original by Stecki (stecki@quakerally.com), purchased from www.turbosquid.com. Check out Turbosquid and Stecki's Racer page at http://stecki.m4driving.sm for more of his excellent work... Textures and modelling by Jonathan Mace and Stecki. These files copyright Jonathan Mace and Stecki, 2002-2003. Please do not edit or redistribute without written permission. Just email me at jon@gamemods.fsnet.co.uk and I'll probably agree...

New model, with full damage, carcol compatible colours (body is [prim], roof is [sec], high res textures, new handling, custom collision file, new real-life colours, 3d wheels using DMagic1's Wheel Mod, three different roof flags, sunroof and blank roof versions included in one .dff file.

Now that the game is getting older, more and more of the modding sites are closing. The following are the original homepages where possible so you can get the latest versions, but if they are closed, try checking around wherever you downloaded this file from.

IMG Explorer (essential), from http://users.volja.net/delfi/ (imports the model and textures)

Vice City GXT Editor v1.0 by CyQ (optional, recommended), from http://www.codenamevice.co.uk/downloads.asp under Tools of the Trade>Archive, listed as Vice City GTX Editor (changes the name that appears when you get in the car. Not very user friendly, but currently the only GXT editor for Vice City)

Collision File Editor (optional, highly recommended), from http://www.steve-m.com/ on the downloads page; it's the Collision File Editor you want, not Collision File Viewer or Maker (imports the collision file to match the ends of the car)

DMagic1's Wheel Mod for Vice City (essential), included in this archive (lets the car have its own custom wheels)

Text Editor (e.g. Notepad, Wordpad etc. essential), included with Windows (edits the other plain text files)

You can replace another TWO-DOOR car instead of the Manana if you want. These are the settings for the car if used to replace the Manana. To replace a different car, just replace the data for that car instead of the Manana and rename all the files accordingly, but don't blame me if you make a mistake... ;)

BEFORE YOU START: All GTA Vice City files are Read Only by default. To enable editing, right-click on them in Windows Explorer or My Computer and choose Properties, then click the box next to 'Read Only' to clear it, then click Ok. You can either do this for each file as you come to it, or right click on the actual \Grand Theft Auto Vice City\ folder and choose to apply the change to all files and subfolders (in Windows XP at least).

VERY IMPORTANT: Make sure you have installed DMagic's Vice City wheel mod by following the instructions in the included 'Wheel Mod Installation.txt' file in the 'DMagic1's ViceCity WheelMod' folder.

Start Notepad and browse to the \Grand Theft Auto Vice City\data\ directory (default path is C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto Vice City\data\). Open carcols.dat and add the following lines for the real life colours (between line ending '#94 dark 5' and the next line, that says 'end')

95,93,98 # 95 DarkSilver
253,236,67 # 96 LiquidYellow
0,0,67 # 97 IndyBlue
84,173,240 # 98 ElectricBlue
0,39,4 # 99 BritishRacingGreen
177,177,181 # 100 PureSilver
188,0,0 # 101 ChiliRed
77,0,9 # 102 VelvetRed

Then replace the manana line in carcols.dat with:
manana, 97, 1, 101, 1, 99, 1, 96, 1, 0, 1, 102, 1, 100, 0, 101, 0

Save carcols.dat and, still in Notepad, open default.ide from the same directory.

Replace the manana line in default.ide with:
140, manana, manana, car, MANANA, MANANA, null, poorfamily, 10, 7, 0, 249, 0.7

Save default.ide and, still in Notepad, open handling.cfg from the same directory.

Replace the MANANA line in handling.cfg with:
MANANA 1125.0 2.3 4.5 1.6 0.0 0.0 -0.25 70 1.10 0.84 0.53 5 180.0 24.0 F P 11.1 0.52 1 35.0 2.6 0.14 0.2 0.3 35000 0.25 -0.10 0.5 0.0 8003 1 1

Save handling.cfg and close Notepad.

Then open vehicles.col from the \Grand Theft Auto Vice City\models\coll\ folder using the Collision File Editor and add the new manana.col as follows.

1/ File>Load and open vehicles.col

2/ Click on 'manana' in the top frame to select it.

3/ Click the 'Rename' button (on the right hand side). Rename manana to manan00.

4/ Click the Import button (click 'Yes' to confirm and apply the changes you made to manana) and find the new manana.col. Click 'Open', then click 'manana' in the next window to select it and click 'Import'

5/ Click File>Save and 'Yes' to confirm that you want to overwrite vehicles.col

Close the Collision File Editor.

Finally, start IMG Explorer and open \Grand Theft Auto Vice City\models\gta3.img to import the model and textures as follows.

1/ Click 'Find' and type 'manana', (without the ' '). IMG Explorer deosn't scroll to the file after finding it, so after clicking 'Find Next' in the Find dialogue box, click cancel.

2/ Click 'Rename' and the box should say either manana.dff or manana.txd. Rename the file to mananaold.dff or mananaold.txd, depending on which one it found.

3/ Click 'Find' again and find the next file named manana. Cancel the Find box again.

4/ Click 'Rename' and the box should have the other of the two files (manana.dff or manana.txd). Rename the file to mananaold.dff or mananaold.txd, depending on which one it found.

5/ Click 'Add' and open my versions of manana.dff and manana.txd (use the manana.dff from the No Stripes subfolder if you want the version without bonnet stripes, but don't use both .dffs at once...), or just drag and drop them into the program window.

6/ The program automatically rebuilds and saves the archive, so once the 'Working' window has dissappeared, click 'Open' and open txd.img (if it exists; Vice City doesn't need it if your graphics card supports DirectX texture compression) from the same directory. If it doesn't exist, skip steps 7-9.

7/ Click 'Find' again and find the next file named manana. Cancel the Find box again.

8/ Click 'Rename' and the box should say manana.txd. Rename the file to mananaold.txd.

9/ Click 'Add' and open my version of manana.txd.

Close IMG Explorer.

If you have GXT Editor, start the program. It's not very user friendly and gives a path error unless you type in the full path to american.gxt in the box at the top BEFORE you click load, rather than clicking load then browsing like any normal program.

The default path for american.gxt is C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto Vice City\TEXT\american.gxt so copy and paste that into the box (or edit it for your own path if you installed it somewhere else), then click 'Load'. After a few seconds, the file will load.

Make sure 'MAIN' is highlighted in the left hand window, then scroll down the right hand one to find and highlight 'MANANA'. 'Manana' should then appear in the bottom window. Type 'MINI Cooper' instead of 'Manana' in the bottom window, then click 'Apply' in the bottom right corner. Finally, click 'Save' at the top right and close GXT Editor!

That should do it...

That's it, now go play!

manana, 58,1, 69,1, 75,77, 18,1, 32,1, 45,45, 13,1, 34,1

140, manana, manana, car, MANANA, MANANA, null, poorfamily, 10, 7, 0, 256, 0.7

MANANA 1000.0 2.0 4.5 1.4 0.0 0.0 0.1 70 1.00 0.86 0.5 4 160.0 15.0 F P 08.0 0.80 0 30.0 1.6 0.08 0.26 0.50 9000 0.31 -0.11 0.5 0.0 2 0 0

Use IMGExplorer to open gta3.img and delete my versions of manana.dff and manana.txd, then search for and rename mananaold.dff and mananaold.txd to manana.dff and manana.txd. Do the same for manana.txd in txd.img if it exists.

Use Collision File Editor to open vehicles.col, find and select the MINI-shaped manana from list (should be at the end). Click 'Delete' and 'Yes' to confirm. Find manan00 and rename it back to manana then save, confirm the changes and overwrite vehicles.col.

The following real life MINI colours have been added to my customised carcols.dat

95,93,98 # 95 DarkSilver
253,236,67 # 96 LiquidYellow
0,0,67 # 97 IndyBlue
84,173,240 # 98 ElectricBlue
0,39,4 # 99 BritishRacingGreen
177,177,181 # 100 PureSilver
188,0,0 # 101 ChiliRed
77,0,9 # 102 VelvetRed

The first three numbers are the RGB values of the colours, the number after the # is the reference number, and the name is just so you can tell them apart ;). White is # 1 in the game, and black is # 0.

The carcols.dat file (in \Grand Theft Auto Vice City\data\ folder) is a plain text file that can be edited in Wordpad, Notepad or your favourite alternative text editor. To change the colour combos find the line in carcols.dat that says

manana, , 96, 0, 96, 1, 97, 1, 99, 1, 99, 0, 100, 0, 101, 1, 101, 0

which sets the Cooper colour combos. The game only seems to recognise 8 different combos for the car, so not all the possible ones are included. The numbers are in groups of two, separated by a comma and a space. Each MINI has a primary (body) colour, assigned with the first number, and a secondary (roof and mirrors) colour, assigned with the second number. For example, the first pair of numbers ', 96, 0' sets up a Liquid Yellow MINI with a Black roof and mirrors. To change it to British Racing Green with a Black roof and mirrors, you would edit it to ', 99, 0' or to set it to Black with a White roof, use ', 0, 1'. You can set the two colours the same for a body coloured roof, which also gives you body coloured mirrors, unlike on the real car (Sorry, that's the way the game works...)

http://people.freenet.de/steve-m/ Easy to use .txd building and texture checking program.
www.codenamegta3.co.uk again. Useful for quickly importing textures into .txd files.
http://www.zmodeler.nfscheats.com/ Excellent 3d modelling program, with free download and tutorials. Create your own cars for GTA3, NFS series and many others, but save often; it crashes a lot...
Milkshape 3d
http://www.swissquake.ch/chumbalum-soft/index.html Another excellent shareware 3d modeller. I used it to convert Stecki's original .obj files into .3ds for importing into Zmodeler.
