ESRB Investigation Concludes, and its Bad News for Grand Theft Auto - Official News

As much as you may have loved the Hot Coffee Mod before today, what you are about to read may cause you to wish it was never created.

Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO) announced today that the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) has changed the rating of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas on all platforms from "Mature 17+" (M) to "Adults Only 18+" (AO) because of the so-called "hot coffee mod," an unauthorized third party modification that alters the retail version of the game. Take-Two cooperated fully with the ESRB's investigation.

Rockstar Games are to cease production of San Andreas immediately and are to release a patch to prevent 'hot coffee' from working in the game. This is especialy bad for hot coffee fans as you will probably need the 1.1 patch to fix the sound and other issues common in the game.

It didn't take long for the effects of the rating to be felt. Late Wednesday, Target, and Best Buy issued press releases they were pulling all versions of San Andreas from shelve.

Unconfirmed reports had GameStop following suit, and Wal-Mart told CNN/Money that it had issued orders to all stores to stop selling the game. "We do not sell games that are rated AO," Wal-Mart spokesperson Karen Burk told the site.

It appears that the Soccor Moms have won this one. Will our world ever be free? Stay Tuned for the future of Grand Theft Auto, however, this is not looking good at all. Could this be the last chapter in the Grand Theft Auto franchise?

I doubt this is the last GTA but they'll be extra careful next time using crazy formats to slow modding etc. You know somebody involved in SA's creation got fired today. eek! It's hard to believe a simple mod/hack/whatever can be this powerful against a multimillion dollar corporation. I wonder how Patrick feels about this.

#1 it dosent matter - its against ESRB rules to have content in the game that they dont see. Rockstar should have taken it out.

it doesnt really make ne difference.. rockstar will carry on making the next version just as before.

only difference is that now they will make sure they delete anything that they dont want seen.

ironically its already an 18 over game in the UK and its still stocked in most retailers.

What the hell? All that trouble just to change the minimum age by ONE year?
And do they think that people magically become completely "adult" over night when they turn 18?
This is such an extremely useless waste of money. Two Thumbs Down!

you see how messed up our government is???This is a disgrace to the American system!

If the hot coffee is only accessable through a simple 1 hex line mod, its still not available to just anybody. You gotta seek it out, then its on your head anyway. (not that a little coffee ever hurt anybody) You could just as easily d/l the nude sim skins and the patch to turn off the blurs. BTW Sims 2 is under attack again.... they say there is genitalia in the game, WRONGO! But, thats the far right for ye, always seeing things that arent even there.... spill coffee on them!

Oh what about jimmying the "patch" so if fixes the bug but you can keep the coffee for your own? Whos fault is that? Will the FBI show up at your door demanding access to your PC? Government-run spywear? (I tell you, its happening)

This is why i say when we all come of age we should invade a sparsely poppulated dessert and create the FIRST TRULY FREE COUNTRY!!!!!!

Whos with me? Woops, forgot rule

As much as I agree with you, Goldsnake, I must point out that it wasn't the 'far right'that pointed this out on the political side of things, though they would have if it could further their agends, But rather hillary clinton, a democrat. wink

At least i already have a copy, and it has M on the box. I dont worry about the age rating...im 14! my mom doesnt care either. My dad and i love this game. Rock
As long as some ESRB agent doesnt break down my door and demand I hand SA over to him, im fine.....hahaha like that would ever happen!!!
Did you hear that the guy who started this (changing the rating and trying to stop production) is going after the Sims 2? thats messed up!!! Puke! He claims that the "sexual activity" is worse than hot coffee!!! GIMMIE A BREAK!!! naked sims are none other than "ken and Barbie" models!!! this guy is screwed up...Beer! Beer!
