This News Item has been viewed 26,306 times
Welcome to all, for the 151st version of the Filefront Network Insider, the third week of the renewed Insider and there have been a fair few files across the network this week including files, maps, modifications, skins, news and much more. In the past week there has also been a lot more news from E3 2010 which has mainly been covered on Filefront's Gaming Today. I have also included some of the E3 news from Gaming Today below although unfortunately I can't include all of it due to the amount of news that Gaming Today covers, but have a look at the link below for more news from the E3 Event from Filefront's own Gaming Today E3 2010 news page.

More Filefront E3 News - Gaming Today

Other than the important gaming news from E3, with lots of new games coming out between now and the New Year, there is also the World Cup 2010. Now that the group stage has finished and the next round of the tournament has begun (Second Round). Although there with a couple of shock exits from the Group Stage with both France and the 2006 World Champions Italy finishing last in their groups as well a couple of lucky teams including both England and Ghana. The second round is now well underway with two of the sixteen teams remaining already out, including both South Korea and the United States (knocked out by Ghana). Not forgetting of course one of the more exciting games of the world cup so far with England against Germany which is being played tomorrow.

So as normal for the Network Insider we have listed all the major gaming happenings, the biggest modifications and files within the last week for you below. Remember; if you see something that you would like to be added to the Insider, or you have a suggestion then simply drop us an E-Mail at The Insider, or email it to me at Danny[at]filefront[dot]com (please put "Insider" as the subject though smile

Also a small note however there are still a lot of open staff positions around the network, including at Call of Duty Files, Flight Simulation Files, Half Life 2 Files, Crysis Files (Crysis 2 is on the way), F.E.A,R Files (F.3.A.R is on the way), Diablo 3 Files, Elder Scrolls Files, rFactor Files and no doubt several other of the main network sites including the Sims files. Filefront E3 News: FileFront's Best of E3 2010
Well, E3 is behind us all now. We've survived the flights, the crowds, and the Dead Space 2 demo. You've survived all the hype explosions, mass hysteria, and literal oceans of content flowing out of the LA Convention Center. So, now that we're all still OK, there's one colossal question left: What were the best games at E3 2010?

To find out, we grabbed our crew from E3 and locked them in a dark room deep inside the secret FileFront volcano lair until they gave up their top 5 games of E3. To be fair, it didn't take long, as all they wanted after a week of E3 was sleep and coffee.

Filefront E3 News: E3 2010 – Thoughts On The Nintendo 3DS
Probably the biggest winner of the E3 press conference wars was Nintendo, who used the occasion to not only showcase their sudden willingness to invest in classic franchises they inexplicably ignored, but to show off the 3DS. I finally got to see it for myself on the final day of E3. They were… discouraging photos, which is for the best, since there's no point of showing you a 2D photo of a 3D screen, but if you can live without them, after the jump I'll run down my thoughts on this groundbreaking gimmicky surprisingly impressive little gadget.

Filefront E3 News: Crysis 2 E3 2010 Demo Impressions
Whether you're into shooters or not, it's virtually guaranteed you've heard of Crysis. Maybe you've played it or discussed the gameplay, but odds are that you've spent more time talking about the crippling effect it had on PCs when it launched in 2007.

Not one to rest on their laurels, Crytek has headed back to the drawing board and created Crysis 2. Set in New York City, Crysis 2 pits players against alien invaders armed with devastating weapons and new sensory abilities.

Filefront E3 News: GoldenEye 007 Wii E3 2010 Impressions
I don't have to tell you that GoldenEye 007 for the N64 was one of the most influential shooters of all time, blah blah. You know this, man. You played GoldenEye with your pals and it's a good memory for you. And sort of like NBA Jam, GoldenEye has been begging for an official modern remake for some time now. Finally, it's getting one. At E3 last week, developer Eurocom walked us through the new GoldenEye on the Wii, showing us both the single-player and multiplayer portions. How's the new/old Bond looking? Hit the jump for details.

Single Player: Activision's Brian Pass described how GoldenEye will take the source material from the original game, but remix it for a slightly different experience. Bond himself is changing, for instance. Pierce Brosnan is out, and in his place is the grittier, more reptilian Daniel Craig, who voices the new GoldenEye. Naturally, the story itself will need to be tweaked to adjust to Craig's Bond style. Bruce Feirstein, the original scriptwriter of the GoldenEye film, is helping here and writing the story for the remake. Another new-skool touch is that David Arnold, the composer of the Quantum of Solace score, is doing the music.

Filefront E3 News: Hands On with Mafia II at E3 2010
Eight years ago, Gathering of Developers released Mafia on the XBox, PS2 and PC, and it turned out to be one of the best games released in 2002. As it's been eight years, I was beginning to think that we'd never see a sequel. Luckily, earlier this year 2K Games announced that Mafia II was under development, and at E3 last week, we got a chance to sit down and get our hands on the upcoming open world title.

2K's demo room was set up to look like Don Corleone's living room in the Godfather, and the facsimile was a pretty good one, outside of the 8 or so LCD TVs in front of the seats.

Filefront E3 News: Smashing E3 Zombies in Dead Rising 2
One of the reasons I own an XBox 360 is Dead Rising. Frank West's adventures in the Willamette Mall captured a ton of my time four years ago, and I was excited to see how Capcom would continue the series with Dead Rising 2. Last week at E3, I got the chance to find out as I got my hands on Dead Rising 2.

This sequel is set in Fortune City, a fictional gambling paradise, and takes place several years after the events of the first game. The zombie outbreak has spread across the country, and our hero Chuck Greene is trapped in Fortune City with a ridiculous number of undead.

Filefront E3 News: Thoughts On The Dungeon Siege III E3 Demo
it's been 5 years since Dungeon Siege 2. That's a hell of a long time in gaming, and even longer when you consider that in the meantime, we've been treated not only to a ton of me-too games from other developers, but that horrible Uwe Boll film. Finally, Square Enix has stepped up with the long awaited next installment in the series, Dungeon Siege III. It's still TBD 2011, which is infuriating, but we made due with a fantastic E3 demo that took us through enough of the game's goodies

Battlefield 1942: E3 2010: Gaikai signs EA
Well now, this is quite something. There have been a lot of interesting things happening at the current E3 convention, and this is no exception. EA has signed an agreement with Gakai to host select EA titles in their service. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Gakai, it is a game service that allows you to play video games right in your browser, neat eh? Among the popular titles mentioned in the agreement is one of EA's greatest: Battlefield: Bad Company. So, if you like playing games from within your browser (I know I would stick out tongue), then look no further than a few spaces down:

Quote:
EA has become the first publisher to sign up to Gaikai's streaming video games service that will allow users to play high-spec titles via any web browser.

Titles that will be hitting the service include The Sims, Battlefield: Bad Company, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Medal of Honor and Need for Speed.

“Gaikai's innovations open whole new experiences for both current players and new customers looking for the best of interactive entertainment,” EA's chief creative director Richard Hilleman stated.

Battlefield 1942: Bad Company 2 PC Patch
DICE Associate Producer, Barrie Tingle, has posted about some of the changes made in the upcoming patch for BC: 2. He also mentioned that the release date should be this coming Wednesday, and if not then they will shoot for the following Monday.

Quote:
So early signs are we fixed the problem by rolling back a change involving SPECACT kits. As long as this continues we are aiming to release on Wednesday (23rd) of next week. However this is dependant on how fast we can gain approval the patch is compliant with Steam. If that approval does not come quick enough the release will slip to the Monday (28th) of the week after (as it is a red day in Sweden on Friday next week and we don't release patches at the end of working weeks). This does mean that SPECACT kits will not be available after patching as we had hoped but all other fixes remain as does the ability to play the new modes like Map Pack #3.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 has officially exceeded 5 million units sold world wide. Thanks to everyone who has supported Battlefield and bought a copy. In other good news we can officially announce Onslaught mode coming to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

I have realised that this is the best time to recruit staff to CoDFiles, previous staff have left us for various reasons ranging from real life issues to pure inactivity. However, with up four staff leaving CoDFiles within the space of a couple of weeks we still are one of the most popular Call of Duty sites there are on the internet and our service to you, the people that submit files has actually increased in regards to response time limits.

I hope to carry this on and if you choose to apply you will be part of a successful team constantly growing amongst one of the biggest sites following the Call of Duty series. I have a few positions that I am looking for specifically so please look at the positions below:

CnC Generals: Zero Hour Reborn Update!
Zeke out did himself in the newest update of ZH Reborn! In the newest update, there are many new generals and units to observe. V7 looks promising!

Quote:
Greetings Reborn fans, It's been a while since you've heard from us so were making a BIG update to compensate.Since it's debut in 1983, the M270 has been a valuable asset to US military commanders, as well as a pain in the ass to anyone designated as it's target. Despite the introduction of the newer and more agile AV-201 tomahawk launcher, General Ironside prefers to "rain hell" with his own modified versions of the M270 dubbed the "M280". Capable of launching multiple conventional rockets as well as EMP ATACMs, the M280 is a definite threat to entrenched GLA positions as well as armored vehicle columns.

Empire at War: Star Wars Revolution: Pirate Uprising Update
I know it has been a long time and usually these updates are done by Trebor_EHHP, but I figured I should give you guys a heads up. There has been pretty much a halt in productivity. There has been a lack of communication between me and Trebor in terms of sharing files and getting everything together for our mod which was supposed to be released here a month ago. I have the bulk of the mod on my PC so I am going to try and finish it up on my own. I don't like making you wait even longer, but I don't want to give anything to this community that is half-done or finished poorly. So, please be patient with me and I will release this mod soon.

Empire at War: Ultimate Empire at War: The UEAW Dev's Blog, Issue #8: 21st June 2010
Today, the mod has reached an important milestone: revision 1000 in our SVN repository! That means that since we moved to SubVersion version control, we've made 1000 blocks of changes (commits) to the mod. So, on this momentous occasion, I thought it would be good for everyone to see some of the statistics behind UEAW.

Total weeks (on SVN):14, Total commits:1000, Total file changes:8791, Average commits per week:71, Average file changes per week:627
As you can see from the numbers, a lot of work has been done so far. But still a lot of work remains! Our progress towards major milestones is going well. The unit models milestone, for example, is at 90%. The September release date is almost definitely within our reach.

We have made another important breakthrough recently, this time in gameplay. Our excellent coder Shimrra has created a script which will add to the droid nature of the CIS navy. This script works in two ways: first, it restricts drone fighters from working beyond the range of carrier craft. Secondly, if all carrier-capable warships are destroyed, the drone fighters will self-destruct.

Headshot!, This is my Rifle, Pick Your Mutation

Headshot!
The only shot that counts is the one in the head.

Shoot them in the arm, shoot them in the leg, shoot them in the chest - it just doesn't matter! The only way these zombies are going down is with a head shot. Other hits will stumble them back, but only a head shot or decapitation will kill them.

This Mutation is available for Campaign Mode.

Star Trek: Legacy: Destiny Expansion for Trek Battles Coming Soon
Ladies and Gentlemen, we are proud to announce that the so-called "Destiny Expansion" for Trek Battles 3 has been completed and will be coming soon to Legacy Files. It contains 7 all new missions, which will bring the story arc, that has been begun by the first 7 missions, to completion and connect our storyline with that of the David Mack's Destiny Trilogy. Moreover MarkyNCC, our campaign scripter, created a "Director's Cut" of the first 7 mission improving the maps as well as the mission scripts themselves. So if you haven't had a chance to play through the campaign yet, you have every reason to do so now.

Battle for Middle Earth 2: ROTWK: Battle fo Alagasia
Mod Description: This mod was intentionally started as a big sound pack to hold my big collection of sound clips from both the Predator and Alien movies. However, through time I decided to add all my previous skins (except my Matrix Drone) and work to the sound pack in order to display all my work up to 06/23/04. I decided to keep this mod server friendly since most people don't use mods because of the lack of servers running them. In other words, YOU CAN JOIN ANY SERVER with this mod. Also, there is a major amount of sounds that have been added that can only be heard in singleplayer. So play both modes.

Company of Heroes: Big Battles Mod v.1
About the File
This mod aims to create bigger and more realistic battles, with units costing less and looking more authentic. It also adds an artillery unit to the Germans, and a number of new skins and models.

Staff Impressions
I certainly don't mind something like this by any means. The units in vanilla CoH were always overpriced, and this mod will help to break some of those pointless and annoying resource deadlocks, allowing bigger battles to happen faster. And that's always fun.

Empire at War: Sci-fi At War - V0.45
It's been quite a while since an update for this mod. It's still fun, it still offers a little something for everyone, and it still looks great. There's still a few bugs, but most of them can be overlooked. My complaint from my first review "balancing issues" has been mostly corrected by making everything very fast and very powerful. I'd cut speed and weapon power on most ships by 75%. But as it stands now, it's pretty well balanced.

Oh, did I forget to mention the addition of Starship Troopers? Just. Plain. Awesome!

The good: This comes with everything you need to get going. Icon, xml, and a great background story. Also, it's a tiny download.
The bad: It's fanon, which isn't really bad, but I couldn't put it in the good category.
The ugly: This release suffers from the same problems most fanon ships and units do; it's too much. Too powerful, too fast, and too unbalancing. But the author acknowledges that, so props to him.

Empire at War: Canon Mod
If you read my review for version 2.0, you'll remember this wasn't my favorite mod. I just feel that some concessions need to be made to make it compatible with this sort of game. That being said, it is something different, and it's fast paced. The author deserves credit for trying to go as canon as possible for the purists out there. And I did enjoy this version more than 2.0, for what it's worth.

Dak Drexl is back with two new armour types, based on a combination of the Republic Armour with a Jedi Robe. There are two types available: the Jedi General Robe, which has three variations available for it, and the Armored Republic Robe, which has four. Each armour has its own icon, stats and description, and are scripted to appear in the game without the need to use cheat codes. Both locations to find the armours are on Dxun: the Republic crash site, and the corpse by the Mandalorian cache. The armours replace the Armoured Flight Suit and slave outfit types in the game, and will clash with any mods altering these armour types. The mod uses the TSLPatcher for ease of installation.

Knights of the Old Republic II: MercStore: A store
Darth_Hal makes their KotORFiles modding debut with a mod which adds a merchant outside the apartment hideout on Taris. The merchant is a Duros, who will be walking toward the player character after the fight outside the apartment. The merchant sells two unique items and has his own dialogue. The mod does not use the TSLPatcher, and the author notes that it will be incompatible with any mods that change the file tar02_postraid.dlg

This is another launcher modification by jpdoglover, similar to his previous file.

A couple screenshots that've been used for the file are posted below, you can easily see basically what it'll look like there. Give it a try if you're into this kind of thing.

Armada 2: The_base
Mapname: The Base, Map By [SFU] Jack, for Armada 2 version 1.1

The Base is a map for a maximum of 8 players. There is one team attacking the base and the other team Defend the base. The base can be achieved only through worm holes. I recommend you to form two teams. Team 1 is in the base and team two outside the base. I have tested the map and found no errors. If you find one, but I beg you tell me the error.

Call of Duty 2: Battlefield, France
This is a small battlefield based upon the south France, with a lot of nice barns, as well as several hills, a lot of houses to either hide, camp or mount a surprise attack. This great map is also very good for S&D. Contact me by e-mail when you place it on server.

Call of Duty 4: mp_dam
Here is a small-medium sized map designed for fast paced gaming. Essentially the map is Two bases which are connected by an underground passage. Works best for Domination and Sabotage. This map is also perfect for the hit and run type of attacking as well as the short quick games.

Company of Heroes: Juno the Beach
Here's a new 6 player map from Moesr which is intended to run with modded versions of Company of Heroes, although can still be played in vanilla. The map features two sides split down the middle with a large ravine covering the allies base and an extensive trench network covering the axis base. Both sides of the map have sparse resources with the bulk of it sitting in the centre of the map ensuring you have to fight your way to capture it.

Empire at War: Mandalorian Civilwar Skirmish Mappack
The author here has made a couple of changes. Concord dawn has been fixed so it is playable. The others have slight changes have been made that make the maps better in my opinion. In this version I apported minimal changes. I added some Mineral Extractor on Galidraan, I changed slightly the texture on Korda 6 and I fixed the problem on Concord Dawn. I didn't test it because I can't play with my FoC, but all should be fixed now.

Farcry 2: Capture The Train
Here we have the first Capture the Diamond Map by nedcoleman. This is a really huge map, there's a lot to see. It's obvious that the author spent a lot of time making this map. You will find a river, train tracks, long roads, a lot of buildings and nicely placed vegetation.

Jedi Knight III: Jedi Temple Library Duel
Here we have a duel map based around one of the libraries of the Jedi Temple! And no, you cant throw books at your opponents I'm afraid, on the plus side, you can make as much noise as you like! wink Since this is the Jedi Temple, the map has a rather soothing light blue and gray colour scheme. The music however is the General Grievous music from Episode 3 I think, so its rousing enough so that you don't start relaxing too much! Nevertheless I personally would have preferred something more long the lines of the Battle of the Heroes music from the epic Mustafar duel, since that is better suited as duel music, since... well, its actual duel music!

Jedi Knight III: Giant Playable Piano
Oh wow. Have you ever felt the need to swim down a toilet thousands of times your size? How about imprisoning yourself in a pencil box? RPing as Tom & Jerry? Or how about dying as the result of a collision with a metronome? For that, playing piano, and more, you've come to the right place.

Remember The Giant Piano? BlueNinja returns with a second version, ready to blow your mind.

Quote:
Version 1 was a small room, but this time I have mapped the upstairs section of a house I used to live in, using a video for precise reference. The house is gigantic, and is really meant for long range sniper battles. There is a lot more to do and see in this map than in V1!

Medal of Honor: Stalingrad Map Mods

Star Wars Battlefront 2: Yavin 4: Arena

Star Wars Battlefront 2: Valhalla
This map is a newer version of the author's earlier map of the same name. In essence, the map remains unchanged. It looks like the changes made were the addition of a few health/ammo droids, the grounding of some objects, and an inexplicable death zone over the water.

While this is ostensibly an "improvement" over the previous version, it doesn't feel like that, primarily for a reason I will address at the end. However, the only really critical change from the first version was the fixing of the floating objects (and this is good for it to have been done). Several fixes still remain undone. Vehicle sounds are still absent, and a noticeable texture problem on the ground texture is still present (the fix for this was mentioned in the prior review). The walls surrounding the map are still garish and need to be made to look better, as mentioned before.

Empire at War: CEC-Fighter-Pack
Is there any one starfighter/starship production company that's better than the rest? They've all got their pluses and minuses. However, in my mind, Corellian Engineering Corporation makes some of the best looking ships in the galaxy. Case in point; these ships. These are some fantastic pieces of work that need to find their way into some mods.

Empire at War: AT-TE Death Clone
Quote:
In my Juggernaut DCs comments, someone asked for a Clone War DC, here you go guys, I'm not particularly proud of it. But I know someone will enjoy it. No code is provided, as I didn't feel the need to do so, but it's not particularly hard to make a death clone line using the Space ones as reference, or you can just download FX mod and copy one of our entries.
And there you have it, a simple AT-TE death clone for use in your mods, based off of the one in several mods, including z3r0x's mod.

Jedi Knight III: Clone Galen Marek's lightsaber
I have honestly never understood the hype The Force Unleashed had. Sure, it had a good engine, and a somewhat decent graphics processor, but I just disliked the storyline so much. Usually, I would go around pretending the Sith Stalker was another guy, and that he has to-... I'm getting off track.

Anyways. HOUOU has brought us a pretty decent representation of TFU2's Galen Marek Lightsaber. Now, from what we know, Galen is now a clone, therefore speculating the 'Clone' portion of the title. I have seen the trailer, and from what I can tell, this saber is pretty accurate to the representing material. We couldn't see past the hands much, but that doesn't really matter.

Jedi Knight III: Acolyte Reborns
Oh dear, another reborn reskin...OR IS IT?! Well, yes and no, because what we have here is rather a reborn makeover, in a sense, with the main feature being a new base model. UnsungHero found it prudent to team up with Schrodinger to reweigh the nostalgically popular Gallimar model from JK2 to make the JK2 Reborns come alive in a new light...and a very fat one.

Seriously, I cannot get over how BEEFY these guys look from the back. I've tried to view them in certain lights(and they look okay in the front,) account for the baggy/puffy clothing, but no matter what happens, I just think "Man, these guys look chunky." I downloaded old Gallimar and compared the original model to your newly-weighed version. Other than the sabers being fixed, it doesn't look like much was alterred in the figure. Y'ever heard that phrase: "Black is slimming?" That might be how Gallimar got away with how he looked in JK2 XD
