Filefront Gaming Today News: Blizzard Releases First Ever Official StarCraft II Custom Map
No doubt you’ve been poring over our ongoing How To series on modding StarCraft II and are dutifully busy getting used to useful-but-confusing Galaxy Editor. So far, that tool hasn’t been officially supported, Blizzard’s position being, basically, that it’s a courtesy, so don’t get your hopes up for changes to the tool based on player demand. Too late. Consider our hopes officially upped. Yesterday, Blizzard released their first ever official custom map, “Burning Tide”.
Apparently not named after an 80s action movie, it’s a 3v3 map that repurposes elements from the single-player “The Devil’s Playground” mission for a multiplayer game whose goal can be best summed up as “gotta get that scrilla”. Expect co-op play and ruthless competition as grizzled teams battle it out to seize total control of game specific limited resources. Plus, timed lava surges and collectible mineral caches. It’s just like American Foreign Policy in the Middle East! Minus Toby Keith.
OK, I’ve been impressed with several TV commercials for games over the past few weeks. The Halo: Reach commercials are awesome, the Madden 11 ones aren’t bad, but my new favorite has to be the new Lord of the Rings Online ad.
Designed to officially launch LotRO’s free-to-play conversion, the ad features Gandalf exiting the Turbine offices and making the announcement in what I think we can all agree is appropriate Gandalf fashion.
So, Borderlands. Gearbox’s quirky shooter/RPG gained a big following upon its release, consuming many of us here at FileFront. Not only did we play the original game to death, but we grabbed up all the DLC and played that too. Given all that, you’ll understand our excitement with the upcoming DLC, Claptrap’s New Robot Revolution.
Unlike the General Knoxx add-on, this DLC won’t raise the level cap. However, Gearbox is issuing a free patch prior to the release of this DLC that will raise the level cap for everyone by eight levels. If you only have the original game, you’ll be able to level to 58. If you own General Knoxx, you’ll be able to get all the way to level 69.
The Revolution DLC puts Claptrap in the forefront, opening with a diorama-style tale of Claptraps revolting, taking over, and beginning to modify the populace. You’ll be able to adventure across six new zones. These zones are targeted at foot travel, so the emphasis on vehicles is much less than it was in General Knoxx
I was sick of Halo. Don’t get me wrong. I loved it, ever since the beginning. But in the gaming world, everywhere you go, there’s Halo. Halo 3 is still the #1 most played game on Xbox Live, and it’s been three years since release. “The Fall of Reach,” a novel inspired by the Halo universe, is a New York Times Bestseller. There are six novels. There’s a “Halo Legends” anime. There are action figures galore. The internet is flooded with Halo machinima.
It’s not just that Halo has permeated pop culture. It’s knocked big holes in it. I’d followed and loved the series, but I was overloaded.
That is, until I played Halo: Reach. It did what I cynically doubted it could do: it brought me back like a prodigal son, and gave me exactly what I was looking for. Halo: Reach is the best Halo game by far, a giant, feature-rich Halo party celebrating the series in all its glory.
I am seriously at a loss for where to start with this review. There’s a lot going on in Halo: Reach. I’ll attempt a summary.
Lord of the Rings Online wasn’t the only Turbine game we saw at PAX last week. We also got the chance to interview Fernando Paiz, Executive Producer, and Ian Currie, Design Director with Dungeons and Dragons Online.
DDO is celebrating its one-year anniversary of going free-to-play, and so Turbine has a lot of statistics, deals, and more to share with you. Check out the video below to see all the goodies ofr yourself, or head over and download it yourself from our fast, free servers.
When I was a kid and had an SNES, I didn’t have a lot of games for it, so I just played the ones I had over and over again, with the main titles being NFL Quarterback Club 96 and Donkey Kong Country 1 and 2. I also had the third Donkey Kong Country, but I didn’t really like it much.
So while I, as I tend not to, have no real nostalgic desire to get my hands on Retro Studios’ Donkey Kong Country Returns, I was certainly curious to see if it could stand up next to those SNES titles I loved so much, because if I don’t get my hands on it myself, how am I supposed to know whether or not I should make fun of the folks who will inevitably be obsessed with it once it arrives in November?
So I knew when I paid a visit to the Nintendo booth at PAX that I had to give it a try. Well, guess what. I liked it.
For my demo, I chose to try out the new game’s mine kart level. I mean, of course I did. In the level I found mine karts. And I found barrels that shoot me across the screen. And I found the letters that make up the word “Kong” scattered throughout the level. And it felt all so very familiar. In terms of design and controls, what I found was a bona fide Donkey Kong Country game. Happy wuz me.
I have been a hater. For a while now, I’ve been talking s**t to my friends about this game. From what I had seen in the game in trailers and screenshots, I saw very little to set apart the environments in the game from that of Fallout 3, and I resented this because Point Lookout managed to deliver a unique environment while only costing me $10.
But I was absolutely wrong. I finally got a chance to play New Vegas at PAX on Friday, and I discovered something that corrected my ignorant-ass worldview: there are hilarious giant geckos in it.
And that’s just what I learned from watching other people play it. Once I actually got my hands on it, even if I only played for ten minutes, I completely changed my negative tune. Here’s the thing. Yes, it is very similar to Fallout 3, but it’s also a distinctly new place, almost like Point Lookout.
What’s up with FEAR these days? Well, it’s now in the hands of Day 1 Studios, who are the folks who handled the console ports of of the original FEAR and more recently developed Fracture. And they have, immediately, put their own stamp on this third entry in our favorite first-person-shooter horror franchise.
This game is co-op. Yes, the lead is the same nameless clone soldier from the first game, but now a second player can tag along in the role of, you didn’t guess it, Paxton f**king Fettel. That’s right. Here’s the dynamic: Point Man uses guns and slowmo, like always. Fettle, on the other hand, does not use guns. Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa-? Yeah. Instead of guns, Fettel has red glowing hands.
Umm, so what’s the point of that? Well, Fettel has a few tools. He can punch people. He can throw red energy balls at people. When Point Man puts everybody in slowmo, he can do this pretty rad shockwave thing. Oh, and he can pick people up with a red tentacle that comes out of his left wrist. And once he’s done that, he can possess them.
Last weekend, our intrepid ground team at the Penny Arcade Expo has a chance to visit the awesome folks at Turbine. Not only did they get some nice information, but they actually let us record the interview.
The voice your hear is is Aaron Campbell, one of the Producers for Lord of the Rings Online. You may remember his name from our behind the scenes preview of the new LotRO update.
Fifteen years ago today, the Playstation launched in North America. And, obviously, this is a big deal to Sony, and so somebody over there at SCEA put together a pair of bulky infographics about Playstation stuff. The first is just random fun facts about the preferences of the people who like Playstation.
For anyone who played Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, you’ll know that BioWare is not new to the Star Wars series. They’re also infamously good at converting licensed material into fun games (i.e. D&D in Baldur’s Gate/Neverwinter Nights), so I was excited to see how they’re doing here.
We fired up a build of the Trooper class, the equivalent of the “Tank” in the game. The Trooper is the guy you send in to the front lines, blasters a’blazing.
The demo starts out aboard a transport ship. We’re headed to the planet of Ord Mantell, where a group of Republic separatists have hidden a very powerful bomb. You can initiate a couple conversations with “Gearbox,” a fellow Trooper.
Armada 2: Antares
I am a fan of pre-TOS and TOS era ships, and I like to make as many as possible. I've always wanted to do the remastered version of the Antares from "Charlie X", a classic TOS episode. I'm learning how to create my own textures using GIMP and make all my models with Milkshape. With the exception of the Stress Puppy's bussard caps everything else is mine. I'm thinking of releasing it, its got 1533 polies and 512 and 1024 texture maps. See for yourself...
This update will fix a few issues including making the Battle of Yavin map stable for players using Nvidia graphics cards at long last. There are also a number of tweaks based on player feedback to the release, and the return of the Mortar Freerunner, which we hope now will prove to be crash free.
Simply use your FirstStrike Launcher to update your mod. It might take a little while for servers to update, so if you are having problems connecting to them immediately after updating, wait a while. This is just the first of a number of updates we have planned to improve your First Strike experience. You'll find the full changelog below:
Strike at Parmel:
- ALL Spawn time of TIE/D and A-Wing increased
- ALL Changed behaviour of TIE/D and A-Wing missiles,
also now limited to 2

Dawn of War: Soulstorm: The Future Apocalypse
Hello guests, members and staff. I am proud to introduce to you the mod of great memories and epicness. The Apocalypse 1.58 just got posted and should be up soon. When it does get downloadable then enjoy it and conquer with new features. Also, stay tuned for the XP1 (Total Destruction) which should be validated a week after the release of 1.58 Actual.
Now for the really important news. XP2 (New Races). That's right, new races will later be available for 1.58. I really hope so anyways if we are allowed permission from the creators. The new races we hope to see are the Tyranids of course and the Inquisition Daemonhunters. We will perfect both races for the Apocalypse and add the extra features to them like we did to the other nine in 1.58 Actual. Though I fear it may take another month or two or three. We are basically applying the same stuff to both races like we did in Apocalypse 1.0, 1.19 and 1.58. All of their buildings will have extra build radiuses, all units besides the major units will be unlimited, all builders will be set to the required cap limit, all commander wargear will be available, all codex weapons will be done and both will contain superweapons and tier IV, V and VI. But it will take a while.

Grand Theft Auto IV is, no doubt, one of the greatest games ever made. It richly deserved the endless fawning, including that perfect 10 IGN threw at it before they gave themselves time to think about the fact that no, wait, actually GTA IV is kind of a disappointing let down.
The crummy, catharsis-free ending aside, GTA IV really is an incredible game. Its version of Liberty city is one of the most amazing, fully realized gaming environments every created (even though it has its bugs), and it’ll be years before someone tops it. But how much better would it have been if you got to berate Roman from first person POV? As it turns out, it’s extremely much better. Modder C06alt put this together and the results speak for themselves:

More Grand Theft Auto San Andreas News: FileFront's Grand Theft Auto San Andreas Files Half-Life 2: Dystopia: September 2010 - 1.30 Release Date!
We're pleased to say that we're finally nearing the end of the road with version 1.30. Dystopia's upcoming patch will add Steamworks functionality, bug fixes, balance tweaks and a host of other download-worthy changes all on top of the Orange Box engine. We're very excited to be nearing the end of this leap for us, as bringing over Dystopia to a newer engine, performing code rewrite after code rewrite and frequent map recompiling, has made us more impatient than ever to share it with the general public.
Between the last news update and now, longstanding Dystopia third party map developer Fedio was made into an official Dystopia developer. With him, he brings the community favorite Fusion and a lot of level design talent. Fusion has since received a design and art overhaul and has quickly escalated itself to the favorite among Supporters who have played it. We're very excited to show for the first time, the official 1.30 revamp and release of Fusion!

These two images demonstrate quite clearly the foolishness of using the toilet during an altercation, and indeed the consequences henceforth. One must always keep his rifle at the ready, as these deceased gentlemen are now aware. (Hands are being added shortly). Click pictures for the full view.
Debauchery needs a programmer to take over for the wonderful JLea of Ivan's Secrets, because he needs to concentrate on that excellent mod. Please contact me if you're interested. There's not that much left to code; basic gameplay is done and there are just a few more features I have planned that aren't yet coded. A gameplay video is also coming soon.

After some time working on the third level there still seem to be areas that overload a certain part of the source engine. I am still working hard on fixing this and i hope it wont be a future concern on other maps. The map sadly has not made any progress cause of this issue as optimizing is a big step in mapmaking.
Instead i have aswell begun working on the last level. I personally dont like to get stuck nor to have a lot of loose ends so its a good way to make progress in both ways. The so called "endgame" will also be the end of the first chapter in the storyline.
Im also aware that its taking me forever to make this mod but its cause i am lacking time. Real life just comes first as many of you know. Its either making it very short or making it halfway decent in the length wich i preffer since i still have a few ideas for the game. Afterall its a huge project for me and i hope you all understand.
Half-Life 2: Fistful of Frags - Beta 3.1 announced.
Hey, I'm glad to announce a new version of our western themed modification. Beta 3.0 was a big step for us, at least in the technical side of things. The game perhaps changed too much for some players, too little for others, in any case I'm very proud of its current state. Well, there were bugs to fix, new ideas to be implemented and lot of feedback was taken in consideration to create our upcoming release. Please watch this informative video
* new realism aim mode meant for duels, this is the real deal!, * capture zones and team enabled loot (CTF gameplay), * axe combat beefed up: higher player speed, faster throws, easier to aim, * new skill 'quick hands': retrieve ground items much quicker, extra HP gained per dropped pack, * new map duel_darktower: try to reach the Peacemaker before being blown up or killed by snakes, * walk function: accuracy increase at the expense of slower movement speed,
several important anti-cheat measures added

Here we have the Lord of the Rings Online Promo trailer for Free to Play which is coming out in less than a week!
Lord of the Rings Online: LotRFiles Clan for LotrO Free to Play!
I would just like to announce that there will be an LotRFiles clan for Lord of the Rings Online when it goes free to play. The name of the clan will be "League of the Rohirrum" and I will be advertising as soon as free to play launches on the Evernight server.
This will be a clan where I will help as many people as possible and those of us that join will all help each other progress through the game. I'm not a high level as I only started playing recently but I want this to be a real community clan and I'm sure many of you will want to play LotrO when it goes free to play. There will be no requirements to join the clan other than you must be on the server [EN] Evernight (sadly I live in the EU and this clan will only be EU based until further notice). So make sure that you make your characters on the [EN]Evernight server if you want to join the clan!
I'll be looking to remove any gold barriers for my account later on so we can have a nice big guild house.

More Lord of the Rings Online News: FileFront's Lord of the Rings Online Files Lord of the Rings Online: PAX Prime Interview with Turbine
An interview took place during PAX to Turbine staff about Lord of the Rings Online Free to Play, which included questions about the general state of the game to questions about the future of the game like including Isengard, which Turbine did not deny!
Q. There’s been speculation with the release of F2P that we’ll see content releases more frequently, can you comment on this? Something before X-Mas?
A. Yes!!! Between now and the end of the year we can expect F2P, Fall Festival and a separate Patch/Update. The Fall Festival will not come until October (no specific date) – but it will be similar to last year’s time frame. However, there is a patch planned between Fall Festival and the end of the year. Here are some of the details. There will be some adjustments to both RK’s and LM’s. The RK’s fire trait line is going to get some attention. Unfortunately, I did not get the details on the LM. In addition, they are planning another update to the Vault that will include a mechanic for naming chests, make it easier to move items between chests, and more. This is in addition to changes coming with F2P.
Q. Can you confirm Isengard is next year and if so, when?
A. Regarding Isengard (not the program), they said it definitely the plan to get there next year. This is not new and they were not specific on a timeline.
Q. When will we see more new dungeons? Classic dungeons converted to scale? New raids? New Skirmishes? Are you going to have any group instances in Enedwaith?
A. The answer was “soon” but not in the upcoming Patch. They plan to continue to scale the dungeons. I asked about the mustering horns in Enedwaith and commented that there were not instance portals. They grinded and said “that is interesting. No comment.”
Battlefield 2: BF2PC - Beta - Weapons and Artillery Modified
Battlefield 2 Pure Chaos Beta - Weapons and Artillery Modified, M24 Sniper Rifle has increased zoom, and explosive ammo. M67 Grenades have the explosion force of the Artillery. M249SAW fires hydra_70 rockets, and doesn't heat up so much. Jackhammer can be used to propel you across the map or send you into the skies. 95FS Pistol fires a modified tank round with increased explosion force. ERYX now fires a javelin type missile that exceeds at long range attacking and has Increased Zoom. Both US Artillery and the MEC/CH artillery fire nuclear warheads with a deviation of 500 and a explosive range of 400 allowing you to still escape the nuclear blast.
Special thanks goto sac3r for the nuclear bomb effects. Becareful when playing against the AI. They WILL attack you with the modified weapons.
About the file
This modification with an incredible file size of 1.6 GB will greatly enhance your Company of Heroes experience by making the game more canon and "historically correct" by adding uniforms, flags, language files and medals.
I am not entirely sure about this one really. Personally, I am a fanatic for historical accuracy and as high quality as possible, which this mod sure provides. I am not a big fan of swasticas being present in a game which is accessable for minors though, even if you only intend to use them as target practise for the allied forces. So in regards of parents, use at your own risk.

Hoo boy, it has been a century and a half since I've seen a good vehicle mod, and THIS will definitely do...
So, Battlestar Galactica, yet another one of those sci-fi series I never really watched. This pack, however, brings intrigue to me. Pra Viilon, a long time clan leader, has taken advantage of a modeller name Coxxon's collection of Battlestar Galactica vehicle models that were "free game to the public," and brought them to JK3 for us.
Before I begin, I must say that all of these models are beautifully done, so hats off to Coxxon for his magnificent work there. Now, all of these vehicles share between 3 vehicle weapons, so fortunately for you all, there won't be a huge overload of vehicle weapons(since there is indeed a limit.) The weapons are as follows:

This is a model of Monza set in 1971. I have used numerous books, magazine articles and the internet to get as good a likeness to the track in-period as possible. Set up for 12 teams / 24 cars to run. The main buildings were created in SketchUp and all of the advertising hoardings were drawn by me, copied from the originals. Credits for other objects/materials; Bob’s Track Builder of course, Ennis Fargis for road textures etc. Weird Beard for Hayward Club textures (excellent Xpack), Grandstands Xpack too, but can’t find whose work that is, sorry!!
Trees are from Great Britain (RBR) & Old Uk Advertising. Both excellent XPacks!! The track is an ongoing project, so as I find more details I will build them into the mod. Likewise any problems will be looked into, should they arise. I hope you enjoy this mod, I sure enjoyed building it!
Bridge Commander: BC Aftermath TNG Romulan Addon
This latest pack fleshes out the Romulans in the TNG Era, as with almost all star trek mods the Federation has the most ships however this pack attempts to rectify that to some degree by introducing a large ammount of ships for the romulan star empire. These ships are taken from other star trek games and some are new design, or designs inspired from other star trek mods. Ofcourse canon designs are also included.
The designs taken from older star trek games (Armada 2 and SFC3) are touched up and alterd to fit within star trek bridge commander and match the quality of all the other ships in the mod.

A Steam compatible version of Scientist Hunt has been released! This is small update fixes errors when running on the Steam platform, such as lack of key bindings.
Scientist Hunt is a Half-Life modification which makes murdering scientists the objective of the game. There are two teams, and each team must compete to murder more scientists than the other team in one of three seperate modes of play. SH also features two non-team-based modes of play with entirely different player scenarios, named Live In Fear and Madness. New features include enhanced scientist physics, completely new scientist AI, and much more.
Basically, you blow scientists heads off with hammers, crowbars, chainsaws, and almost all other half-life weapons. Very sweet, they run around. Good targed practice.

Like, an insane amount. I've never seen and recorded these many astromechs, let alone in game before. There are a total of THIRTY-SIX droid npcs alone, not counting the available vehicles in this pack. That's right, you can drive some droids as well.
So basically, the best way to sum up this pack is to call it a big ol' recolor pack. Sounds kinda crude, I know, but that's about accurate. The majority of the droids are simply recolors of the base textures. Some are good, some are weird, others are repeats, but most of them are not. It's a pretty interesting pack, and some of the designs are really appealing. I like the imperial recolor of the R5 in particular, along with some of the green R2/R5's. Quite intriguing.
Now, what about these vehicles? Pretty simple, you get to drive a regular R2, an imperial R2, and a regular R5. Now what Helena here has done that's quite ingenious is using the VH_ANIMAL vehicle class, which unlike the walker class, will NOT run over everyone you see, which was an unintended feature in some of the other packs I've seen. It kinda makes it difficult when your R2 unit's rolling by you and he accidentally mows you down.

Know then that it is the year 10191, the known universe is ruled by the Padishah Emperor Shaddam IV and I am in love with Dune.
Regardless, Pande brings us a script that lets you toggle between 1st person, 3rd person, and - wait for it - over the shoulder view. You can see the over the shoulder view in the screenshots, and, quite honestly, I love it. Though it takes some getting used to, it does make a nice change. S'pose it might work for the RPers amongst us too, but that's just me.
All in all, I'd say these'd be very interesting additions if you use Jaden Male. Additionally, there are two skins, one being compilation of the custom skins, the other being a whole different skin, with a fusion of a shadowtrooper crystal, ribbed torso, and a torn hem on the coat. Pretty neat, if it weren't for the whole cliche scar over the eye thing going on, but looks alright. These two skins have team skins, NPCs, and Bot Support. Majestic, I know. There are some additional extras, like a splash screen, main menu music, and the red saber is available in singleplayer. Overall, quite a potent pack. THE END. Yes, I just said The End, get over it.

For many years, the Ford Motor Company has made police cars for law enforcement use. The most fame and popular police car everybody has seen since the movie "Blues Brothers" to "SWAT" is the Ford Crown Victoria LTD, P72 and P71. The P71 is built and sold only to police departments, county sheriff’s department, state authorities and other municipal agencies within the United States and territories. Since Chevrolet stopped producing the Caprice, Ford has had a near monopoly on the market for police vehicles due to the Crown Victoria’s preferred V8 and rear wheel drive, even though DaimlerChrysler has introduce the Dodge Charge and Chevrolet the Impala 9C1 and 9C3.
Besides stiffer suspension and less mechanical restrictions for speed, there are not many differences between the civillian version of the Crown Victoria and the P71 mechanically wise as the P71 still uses the same Ford 4.6L 2V SOHC V8 Ford Modular engine and 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission as the civillian version does; however there is very noticeable body work and interior modifications such as the black trimming and trunk configurations. The P71 is able to be further modified to accept a wide range of lightbars, pushbumpers, radio consoles, laptop consoles and partition cages. Though there are many lawsuits and criticism towards Ford Motor Company for 2003-2005 models, Ford still and for many years to come will continue to manufacture the Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor for Law Enforcement use throughout the United States of America.

About the File
This is a fairly simple attrition-warfare map, featuring battles on (you guessed it!) Omaha Beach. The warfare is fairly linear, however, the large amount of open space means flanking attacks are possible at all times. That same amount of open space makes infantry near-useless, as the almost total lack of cover means they will be shredded by enemy fire.
A very good premise, and something we don't see much of around here. True attrition maps are rare, and always welcome, but this map leaves something to be desired graphically.
First, the beach doesn't look very... well, beach-like. Instead of a gentle slope from shore to the ocean, it suddenly drops at the edges, and doesn't even extend to the horizon (like a real beach), but simply forms a small square to play on. Just because it's outside the playable area doesn't mean you shouldn't pay attention to it, you know. Texture-wise, the beach is what can be expected (it's a beach, after all - variation is a bit much to ask), but the grassy area sorely needs it. Likewise with objects - there's no variation there, either, and they're too few and far between on the grassy section.

I was really enjoying this map until I wanted to buy something. It was at that point I realized that I was short on mineral pads. Then I realized there were none to be found anywhere on this rock. So it's a slow go to win this one, esp. with all the Hutt forces around the map in groups big enough to pose a problem. Other than that, it's good first map and would make an even better first map revision.

If you've been with FileFront for a while, then you know how much I love big maps. Which may bias my opinion sometimes, because it's hard to make a large map that I don't like. That being said, I enjoyed this map very much (duh). Besides the size, there are other aspects that make this map worth playing. Such as, multiple paths to war, a well defended Empire base, pirates, and mountain paths. The downside, texturing and terrain. Although it's not bad, it needs a little variety.

It's centered around (or more precisely within) a speeder bike track, although for obvious reasons the spawn points are all away from the track itself. The main area of the map includes a large council building with a three-doored lobby, featuring some greenery and the clan emblem, a couple of elevators to the bar, and of course the waiting room and council chamber. Other areas in the main portion of the map include the "Shrine of the Founders", near the bar, which has statues of clan founders Matt and Iniowe, as well as Link, who's led the clan since 2005. Continuing along from the Shrine of the Founders is a bridge over the main area of the map to the target range. This features targets that actually do something when shot.
Outside there's also an elevator down to the main level of the map, with room for several people. Near the elevator on the main level is a large arena with galleries for observers. Other areas outside include a small park near the "Great Gate of the Jawas," a large park partly under the speeder track (check out the skylights on the track itself), which kept growing more elaborate throughout the development of the map, a small arena for training, also with working health dispensers, a swimming pool (try the diving board!), and a couple of false doors to buildings that couldn't really have finished interiors due to the complexity of the map.

Revenant Rack is a Left 4 Dead map that I created over the course of around 4 months, slowly chipping away at recreating my own home inside the L4D universe. I included "an experimental map" in the description of the map as it quite literally is my house floating in the void, and I began the production without much direction purpose-wise. Weapons, ammunition and health supplies are all scattered around the building in strategic places - some will make you come out of any camping spots you might discover. There are also some positions such as the roof and outside the grounds (in the void/ skybox area) that will noticeably have an effect on the difficulty; play it how you like - properly or not!

More Left For Dead: FileFront's Left For Dead Files Star Wars Battlefront: Karccev: Forest
Ty294 returns from a modding hiatus with this map, Karccev: Forest. The map is a war between a Mandalorian-like faction (the Taung Confederacy) and the Sinyan Imperium (stormtroopers, basically). The map takes place on a snowy planet. Essentially, the map is a snowy plain with a bunch of trees scattered around. There are some turrets and walls you can construct, but other than that the map is pretty barren. This isn't bad, though, because it feels natural and doesn't require a lot of objects in order to feel like an actual landscape. There are about 5 or 6 CPs to fight over. Four of them are in a line for the two playable factions to fight over, and the other one is set way off to the side for the native faction to spawn at. You can capture this one, but it's really out of the way and doesn't offer much benefit.
The map's sides are pretty basic, though they are new. Both sides have a rifleman unit, a unit with a missile launcher, a unit with a rifle and repair tool, a unit with a sniper, and a commander unit that has a special weapon. The Mandalorians have a knife in place of the pistol for close quarters combat, and the Imperials' special unit have an "artillery strike" that can be used to destroy a large area of the map at once. The Mandalorian special unit has a chaingun instead of a pistol like the opposing special unit does.

More Star Wars Battlefront: FileFront's Star Wars Battlefront Files Star Wars Battlefront 2: Korriban Valley of the Dark Lords
"Korriban: Valley of the Dark Lords," by martin105038, is a large map set on the Sith planet Korriban, which has been featured in many different kinds of media. This looks like it probably inherits the most from JKA's Korriban, but it's certainly not slavish in its design to any other game's map. It's a pretty ambitious map for a new mapper, and I'll definitely say that it has more positives than negatives. There's been a really good job using a combination of stock props and, I assume, some new models to make a pretty solid Korriban map. I don't know how much of the tunnels section is newly modeled and how much of it is simply repurposed stock models, but the work done there is easily the most impressive part of the map. The choice to open up some of the tunnel areas and have it surround lava pits looks really nice.
On the other hand, it's a large map. Really large. Too large, if I may be so bold. There's a lot of running to get from one CP to another, and while it's not as egregious as it is on some over-large maps, it could definitely be toned down here. The biggest size-related issue is simply the number of AI, which goes hand-in-hand with the map size and the relatively low number of CPs to make for a map on which the human player doesn't get to feel like he's doing a whole lot. Rarely will the human player be able to capture CPs (even as a hero!) because of the large number of AI spawning at any given time.

The map itself is essentially a small village/town thing set in a valley between a bunch of mountains. Outside of the valley but on the same level there is a landing area with two gunships that serve as the clones' starting CP. The CIS start at the very other end of the town. There are a bunch of control points in the town and a few on the cliffs overlooking the town, which is a good place for snipers to camp out. Pretty much every building in the map is destructible, so go hog wild shooting at everything. Explosions are rampant, though since the buildings take a while to blow up the map will still be mostly intact at the end. The map is pretty well put together, especially for a first map. Terrain is smooth and natural looking, and the buildings are well placed.
Sides wise, you have your standard clones vs. droids layout. There are some new units for the CIS, who have a lot more than the clones do. Most of the units are equally powerful, so you really can't go wrong choosing one over the other. The units are reskinned also, and the skins are pretty good. Even those units that are stock have been changed up a bit, so it feels like a fresh new experience. Considering that the clones are probably the side most expanded upon and (in my opinion) overused, it's saying something that the units felt fresh.

Ultimately decommissioned in 2006, the Titan family of rockets were considered too expensive and too finicky compared to alternative rocketry technology to be used in mainstream space exploration. Fortune favors a thrifty shopper however, and as the Titan I was phased out for its successor, RED and BLU both scrambled to snatch up the memoirs of the past decade of expendable rocketry. Seeing an exploitable opening, both groups feverishly worked on retrofitting the technology into their own plans of world domination, and though the aforementioned fortune can be kind, it can also maintain a sense of irony - for now both RED and BLU have each other in the crosshairs, rockets pointed squarely at each other.
With three control points per side, controlling the forward base that oversees the transportation of rocketry parts is only the first step. You'll need to then capture their storage shack which houses technological marvels from decades past, as well as their fuel reserves. Finally, you're ready to strike at your final goal - the control point directly behind the rocket in their control room terminus. Sabotaging their rocket will assure victory for your side, as well as assuring their carefully laid plans (as well as their base) goes up in an explosion of steel and fire!

The author literally dreamed this level up. The main difference from the dream being that the map was about five times as large and had full HDR lighting with bloom, which doesn't work on his computer.
So basically The Blu team has to push the cart up a long and high-up series of ramps into the Red base in the sky. In the Red base there is a tractor beam that pulls up players and the cart. Once the cart reaches the top of the tractor beam, the beam deactivates, the blu team wins, and the bomb drops straight back down to the bottom center of the map and blows up.

Definitely worth a download. You know you want the ship-- either as a means by which to conquer the galaxy, or because a target that big is just asking to be shot at and brought down.
Some of Y'all who are registered over at A2Files are already well familiar with Starfox's work. He won a contest over there with this ship. As with eveything he does, it is excellent and as faithful a re creation as he can make to the original. I found out recently from him his old computer crashed and took this very fine piece of work with it. So it is with great pride and pleasure I present to you a version of his work which he thought lost. This version of his Super Star Destroyer is done nearly to perfection. It includes some additional material by yours truly which makes this already fearsome weapon into what can only be described accurately as the GodShip of Godships. Starfox made no attempt to balance her with Stock A2. And no apologies for not doing so either. So the additional materials I've added are in the same vein. So, there's been a lot of attempts to reskin ol' Katarn back into his Dark Forces II threads. This, however, will probably crown all the other attempts, methinks. Why? Well, how many of them can say they use a whole new model? Not many. This Kyle model literally blows the old kyle out of the water tenfold. So, starting from head to toe, let's see what's gone on here.
...So, anyway, the head. There's so many things about this that puts the Raven Kyle model to shame. The overall head itself is much more crisp and smooth, and doesn't feel as jagged as the old model did. The nose is perfectly rounded off, instead of terminating in that pointy tip that some of you may noticed the old one does. The moustache is no longer grafted into the model, so people who inevitably reskin this will not have to contend with that ugly moustache blurring into their fresh faced characters.
Now, the neck and torso, which also made me go "WHOA!" are a lot more vivid and lifelike. I've never really cared much for the old Kyle's shirt, as it felt grainy and generally unpleasing to look at. It didn't even feel like a real shirt so much as it did a bad texture. DT has changed that immensely, and the shirt now feels like it's an actual article of clothing instead of a texture applied to a generic body.

So, I guess I've missed some things, as I don't recall seeing this guy without a mask, but whatever. Skinned off of Hapslash's infamous Anakin model, I gotta say this guy looks really ugly. Not quality ugly but character ugly. I don't know what it is with Bioware and disfigured Sith Lords(although that seems to be a trend all throughout Star Wars as well,) but this guy's face looks like he tried to shave with his lightsaber one afternoon and paid dearly for it. Now that's what the actual character looks to have done; the SKIN, however, seems to have taken it to the next level. It looks far more severe, and it looks like it was just delivered. It reminds me a lot of the saber scorchmarks that show up on characters in singleplayer. Otherwise, does it look like the character in question? Eh...not really. Just looks like a sith anakin with mandalorian chest plating and interesting wrist gauntlets.
