Welcome to all for the fourth version of the Gamefront Network Update - News Section the first part of the weekly news post. The news part of the Weekly update includes the latest news that has been posted on the Network Sites over the past week as well as some of the latest news from the Filefront Main Site, although in this case there is news from the past two weeks. There has been a fair bit of news from both the network sites and the main filefront site including new games, interesting stories, cheats, Free DLC. This week there is also a fair bit of news from the Star Wars: Empire at War Network Site as well as a fairly big review of Gran Turismo 5 on the PS3

Gamefront Competition: Win a Copy of Top Gun on PSN and PC
Top Gun: cool movie and now a game in which you can fly planes and shoot other planes. That’s usually a good time, because killing people with a jet aircraft is fun [most of the time], right? Anyway, I want to give away some download codes for the new Top Gun game to my dear readers. I’ve got four codes for the Playstation Network and four codes for Steam. This is going to be a comment contest, so if you want one of these codes, you’ll have to do something for me. We’re adding new features, a prettier (more readable) design, and of course a stronger name that better reflects our full arsenal of content. This is a big step for the site, and we’re excited to take it into a new era. But don’t misunderstand: what you know and love about FileFront is STILL HERE, and it’s not going anywhere. We’re still the best collection of demos, patches and mods on the planet, and we’ll be working to improve those products even further in the future.
The GameFront Launch Center will help keep you up to speed with new features, changes and bug reports as we work on tightening up all the nuts and bolts. This is a big project, and we’re all running around with our faces on fire trying to make everything work as it should. We appreciate your patience and understanding in the coming weeks.

Thanks to its extensive replay value and nearly unlimited possibilities, Minecraft became one of the sleeper hits of the year. Coded in Java by Swede Markus Persson, the title took the intertubes by storm in mid-May, causing gamers the world over to abandon their lovingly rendered next-gen titles and delve into a world of full chunky, bitmapped blocks. Once they arrived in that world, they let their imaginations run wild, taking advantage of the game’s robust sandboxing and world-building options to craft all sorts of epic creations. We’ve compiled videos of the year’s best. Check ‘em out!
Big River - The most amusing part of this video is the sheer delight with which its creators greet the titular torrent of water. “DAMN THIS IS EPIC WATER,” effuses one of them in chat. The whole thing is imbued with the kind of unrestrained glee usually reserved for epic, come-from-behind sports victories. In fact, it’s just a bunch of guys watching a digitized flash flood. Also, you gotta love the fact that the river was pre-seeded with a boat and a shark before they actually let the water in.
Back in October, Blizzard announced that they had banned 5000 Starcraft 2 players. Now, they’ve released word that another round of bans has gone out.
In a short statement on the Starcraft 2 blog, Blizzard reports the bans (although without giving any numbers), saying that the players banned,

In the month of October, 232,000 Wiis were sold in the US. Over the past weekend, 600,000 Wiis were sold. Wowzer. But that’s not all. Even with the 3DS only a couple months away now, they dropped 900,000 of those on consumers this weekend as well.
To be fair, though, the DS was going for absurdly low prices, but price breaks certainly aren’t responsible for the Wii’s performance as that was going for full price most places, though a few at it at $180. Anyway, that’s pretty insane regardless.
If you’re one of those folks who are now snarking it up about the Wii not having any “real” games and blah blah blah, think about it this way: The getting is good now because even if the console only has a handful of AAA titles a year, it’s been out for four years already.
Oh, 2010, such a year you’ve been. You reduced the Corey and Golden Girls population by 50%, but you made up for it by being an extremely proliffic year for gaming. And if you’ve been paying attention, you know that the hardest working developers of all have been the modders toiling away for free (or next to nothing), delivering some of the best games you’ll ever play. In many cases, these under-rewarded geniuses even managed to outshine the game they’ve modded.
So you’re looking for an excuse to invest in a gaming computer? We’ll give you one. Here’s GameFront’s staff picks for the best mods of 2010.
* Company of Heroes: Eastern Front (For Company of Heroes)
Oh man. You didn’t just read that title and go, “What, you mean Halo and Call of Duty,” did you?
Damn. So did I. It’s gonna be a long morning.
Looking back, 2010 was actually a pretty thin year for the FPS. Sure, we got entries into the big franchises — Halo, Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, BioShock and Battlefield all saw updates this year, but none of them is exactly spectacular. If you owned a Mac, you finally got a chance to play Half-Life 2; that was kind of cool. Wii players got to pitch throwing knives like it was 1997, but it was 2010 and they were using Wii Remotes in Goldeneye 007. Whoo-hoo.
There aren’t many standouts, and certainly nothing breathtaking. Goldeneye was not some kind of FPS rapture (although we kinda hoped it would be), BioShock 2 seriously lacked the flair of the original, and the story of Halo: Reach has been known since Halo 1 — everyone dies at the end, because the Covenant nuke that freakin’ planet. Spoiler alert.

Live-action games ads are the best ads because they’re amazingly evasive. They sorta tell you about the game without really telling you about the game. They’re like those movie teasers that just has dramatic music and a person talking over a black screen before a logo slowly creates itself or rolls onto the screen. There’s no content there, but it’s f**king cool. Anyway, since it’s December, and this is the time in which we look back on year before forgetting about it forever in a few weeks, here are the highlights of The Year in Live-Action Game Advertising.
In December 2004, Sony released Gran Turismo 4 on the Playstation 2. In May 2005, Microsoft released Forza Motorsport on the Xbox. By the end of 2009, we’d played two Forza titles on the Xbox 360, and we still hadn’t seen another full, home console Gran Turismo game. GT5 was delayed again and again as Kazunori Yamauchi continued to beef up the game, and then, last week, the game actually, truly, hit stores. The question now, with Forza 3 being the success that it was, is this: Does the long-awaited Gran Turismo 5 maintain the franchise’s status as the gold standard for simulated racing or, now that the polls are closed, can we call Forza the champ? Hold that thought.
Gran Turismo 5 is, without a doubt, as full of content as any game I can think of. It has 1,000 cars, including stock cars and karts and freaking buses, and the events are so varied that you’ll have to try out dozens of different vehicles. It has 70 tracks and a few different ways to race on each one. It has online and splitscreen racing. It allows the player to get under the hood of each car and tinker to his heart’s desire. B-Spec mode returns and lets you be the crew chief and oversee an AI driver. You can take your “premium cars” (these make up 200 of the 1,000 or so cars) and plant them in some picturesque location just fo the purpose of taking pictures.
After about 16 hours of racing, I owned 27 cars and had completed 20% of the events. I noted this, and then hunkered down and raced some more.
No more blurry and possibly fake (or clearly fake) photos of the Playstation Phone for us. Nope, some videos of the thing popped up on Youtube today, and it looks exactly like it does in the pictures. The guy who made the videos doesn’t show himself playing any games for whatever reason, but he does show that the item is a functioning Android phone. I would still hesitate to go all the way and say I definitely, 100% believe this is the real thing, just because the tech nerds could probably build this if they really wanted to. But since I do believe this thing exists, I do mostly believe this is the real thing. OK, on to the videos. The first one shows the guy just kinda messing around with the thing, and everything there will look familiar to Android owners. The second video shows him attempting to use the Playstation part of the phone, but if you’re expecting some God of War action right now you’ll be disappointed. Enjoy.
Kinect is popular, apparently, and now, after Black Friday, its popularity is growing. I know this because after 25 days on the market, 2.5 million Kinect sensors have been purchased. That’s weird, considering it had sold a million after ten days, but don’t go thinking sales have been as steady as that would indicate. Like I said, this figure comes in the wake of Black Friday, which surely boosted sales significantly. The boost was probably very significant, in fact. Look at how the Wii did over the weekend, for example.
Microsoft expects to sell five million of these things by the end of the month, but it’s hard to say if they’re still on pace after taking into account the BF Bump. I’m sure MS will let us know if they do hit that number, though. The war is on.
We’re about 2.5 months into the life of the Playstation Move, and — surprise! — it’s doing well, to the tune of 4.1 million Move controllers sold worldwide thus far. That number, if you must know, includes sales of all Move bundles as well as individual Move controllers, and it does not include Move navigation controllers.
But damn. A lot of folks considered the Move to be a punchline because it looks like a Wiimote, but you’re showing them, Sony! Seriously, though, that’s pretty darn good, and I think folks at Sony are probably happy about that number, though I can’t say for sure because they didn’t make some grand prediction about how many they’d sell this year.
I’m a cool person now, but I used to be a real nerd. I was such a nerd that I attended Star Wars conventions and watched thousands of Star Wars fan films trying to find that one awesome lightsaber duel. I never found it, but my quest did lead me to this, so it was ultimately worth it. Anyway, what I’m saying is most fan films aren’t worth a damn, especially the ones about Batman fighting Aliens (suck my [censored] [censored], Batman [censored] Dead End). There are exceptions.
But this one, in which some guys filmed themselves in front of greenscreen and then digitally inserted themselves into the Halo: Reach engine, is pretty hysterical from the beginning just for the novelty of what you’re seeing. It’s like watching old FMV cutscenes from the 90s, and it specifically reminds me most of Dark Forces II. No telling if it’s still funny the second or third time around, but I had a good enough time with it the first time that I thought I’d share it with you folks. It’s called You’ll Never get the Power Core.
I like the idea of OnLive, I really do. It works extremely well (at PAX I even played it over the expo’s wifi, and it was very stable), and they’ve got this new thing you can plug up to your TV so you can play that way, which is cool, but they’ve been missing two things: a good selection of games and a goddamn monthly subscription plan that lets you play all the games you want.
Well, we’re still waiting on the good selection, but the other missing thing has arrived. OnLive revealed to its PlayPack plan, which lets you pay $9.99 a month to play as many games as you want in a new, separate archive of games. Any brand-new games OnLive gets won’t be playable in the PlayPack, but that’s probably OK since the subscription price on this thing is absurdly low. Obviously, you’ll still be able to buy normal passes for new releases in addition to your PlayPack plan.
The UK’s biggest gaming rag, GamesMaster, is reporting that “industry chatter” says folks at 343 Industries are working on an updated version of Halo: Combat Evolved intended to run on the Halo: Reach engine. They also say another Halo game — Halo 4, in fact — would arrive in 2012. Eurogamer, nosy bastards that they are, decided to ask Microsoft about this ridiculous remake thing. The response: “Right now our focus is on supporting Halo: Reach. We have nothing to announce at this time.”
So it’s happening.
That whole Halo 4 thing makes perfect sense; Master Chief was last seen floating aimlessly through space in the Forward Unto Dawn toward some planet, and there are all sorts of Ratchet and Clank-style adventures he could get into there. Also, there’s lots of money to be had there.
And there must be some money to be had from an overhaul of the original Halo, but I can’t for the life of me understand why. Unless they completely redesign the whole game, an HD update would be even more insufferable than it was the first time around. Really, have you played Halo recently? Bungie’s level design philosophy was straight out of 1993 and would certainly not be acceptable today.
I seen some things in my time. I seen the state of Alabama make interracial marriage legal (just ten years ago!). I seen Carly Fiorina become a rich person. I seen people tell me that Metal Gear Solid 3 is amazing even though Para-Medic talks about King f**king Kong for 30 minutes the first time you presume to try to save your game. I even seen some white bubbling mud. But I ain’t never seen nothing like that TV pictured above.
What we have here is the Sony Bravia KDL-22PX300, which is a 22″ HDTV with a PS2 built into the base. I even think I’m joking, but I’m not. That thing is real, and if you live in the UK you can get one right now because it just began hitting store shelves this week. It’ll run you about 199 lbs. Er, 199 pounds. Er, £199. There. Sorry, guys, but I have a ‘Merikin keyboard and we use dollars. Just FYI.
Ever since those no-good, motherf**king goddamn pigs stole those eggs so long ago, the Angry Birds — who don’t even remember how the war started anymore — finally have s**t going on that isn’t about the destruction and genocide. Instead, it’s about delicious cake and hats and legos. To find all possible human applications for the Angry Birds, head over to Walyou, where you can sift through a massive and quite awesome gallery of Angry Bird things. This might even be as cool as a gallery I put together.
In a stunning, and hilarious development, barely a day after Federal Prescutors were treated to a vicious verbal curb-stomping at the hands of presiding Judge Philip Gutierrez, the charges against Matthew Crippen over the legality of his alleged Xbox modding business have been abruptly dismissed.
The chain of events leading to this unexpected outcome began yesterday, when Judge Gutierrez, visibly exasperated by what appears to be the Prosecution’s total lack of credibility, blasted them for numerous problems in their case, including the possbility that they were relying on evidence gathered illegally, and that at least one of their witnesses was himself guilty of the “crime” for which Matthew Crippen faced 10 years in prison:

Last week, Mark Wahlberg confirmed that he was taking on the role of Nathan Drake in a movie based on PS3 blockbuster Uncharted. As always, this inspired a litany of comments from fans and bloggers alike, arguing whether or not Wahlberg would make a good Nathan Drake. We had a similar issue a few years ago as we debated the pros and cons of Christian Bale stepping into a sneaking suit and grunting his way through a Metal Gear Solid film. Now, I’m going to argue that Mark Wahlberg will not make a good Nathan Drake, but it won’t be due to what I think of his acting ability.
He’ll make a poor Nathan Drake simply because we already have a perfect Nathan Drake. In fact, we have the definitive Nathan Drake, and ignorance of this fact is nothing but a show of disrespect towards games as a valid entertainment medium. Here’s the thing — a massive part of what has made Nathan Drake such a well known character is the performance of his voice actor, Nolan North. Say what you will about North and is over-exposure of late, his voice is intrinsically linked to the character that first saw him rise to prominence. If I hear North in another game, I think of Nathan Drake, and when I think of Nathan Drake, I can’t help but hear Nolan North’s voice.

This is truly an end of an era, one of the biggest and best RTS series is going to loose its online community, with many people either playing in small numbers with Hamachi, or moving to something called 'Gameranger.' I haven't tested this myself, and may not intend to, but from now on it looks as though the BFME series has called its day. Of course if you are still making maps and mods, we will host them for you and keep this community alive as best as we can.
Until D-Day, have lots of games from the BFME series and it's honestly been a pleasure competing with all of you and getting right to the top of the game. We make the community, we make them their money, do not let them forget that. I'd like to finish off with one of the greatest speeches in a movie ever made, you all probably guessed it correctly, Theoden's speech at the Battle of the Pelennor Fields:

The mod is being created by me, with help from several members of the Thrawn's Revenge team.

Today's subjects are the new GUI, some new details about the diplomacy system and a new ability for carriers in space.
Let's start with the GUI: As most of you probably know, Space Addon uses a Sub Menu System to switch between different ship classes on Empire at War's command bar, which allows us to add a lot more units to the mod, since Empire at War itself could only handle 26 units on one planet at once. We were not too happy with the alignment of the new GUI buttons, so we have re-positioned them to make them look like they were actually a part of the original command bar:
Let me explain the function of the buttons from left to right: You will recognize the first two as standard Empire at War buttons(droid helper and objectives window), nothing special about those two. The next four buttons are part of our Sub Menu System. The first one will open the Corvettes/Frigates menu, the second the Capital Ship menu, the third one the Super Star Destroyers menu and finally the fourth will open the research menu. And now the last button, which is the most exciting one, belongs to our diplomacy system, which leads me to the next point:
Influence Table and Low Influence Notifications
As I said, the last button belongs to the diplomacy system and will display the Influence Table, which allows you to keep an overview over all the influence values of your planets.
Although the table is still a work in progress, let me show you a picture of how it could look like when it's finished:

Well this is the big update. I really hope this is the last official update... I was not going to update but there were a few things I wanted to address.
First off, welcome fans! Thank you for voting us into the top 100 mods!!! When I first started this mod in mid 2007 it was supposed to be a semi private project. My first goal was to create a mod set with the Yuuzhan Vong as a faction. It would have been epic. I was not concerned with a clone wars mod as my friends who were on the staff at IA2 were making what was to be a great mod. However, as time passed I was contacted by one of the staff on that mod and was told that production had slowed to a snails pace. It was looking grim..So I started making my own clone wars mod and put my vong mod on hold. Shortly after all this.. I was being told that IA2 was basically ceasing. I offered to take it over and was granted permission to do so. Now I admit, I have blown some release dates and for that I am sorry. I broke my own rules several times and put out dates. The reason for the missed dates is simple. 1. Real Life 2. The Tree theory.
Those of you who mod know what this is. Those that dont let me explain. For everything you add ort change, causes many other things to be changed that need to be changed, or edited. This grows exponentially as you add things or change things (like a tree growing branches). So everytime I added in a unit or a idea etc, I realized, I had to create new projectiles, and new SFX, and new icons, and new text, and the projectiles needed new particles, and the unit needed special movement SFX, etc etc, and so on. Lets just say that this mod was a MASSIVE undertaking to the say the least. That being said, I want to thank all our fans. I think I am blessed with some of the most patient and fun group of people around. Most of you have been a pleasure to deal with, chat with, kick ideas around with, and just get feedback with. You are the only reason at this point that this mod is still going. This is your mod as much as it is mine. I keep referring to this as a mod, but this project is much more than that. You will see when you first load this mod up, it really is closer to a expansion or a new game entirely. No, we dont have tons of useless scripts that serve no purpose once so ever. Game play will be almost identical but with some new changes. The one thing that most of you have overwhelmingly stated was you wanted to kick CIS or Republic butt, 24/7. Well our focus is indeed on butt kicking. No complicated production charts, or strategies. You will build a fleet and wipe out the enemy. The battles will be large, intense, and destructive.
Due to the Mod of the Year award and several other factors, this monthly post is a little earlier than usual. First, the entire UEAW team thanks everyone who voted for us. We didn't expect this at all, and we're very happy about the confidence placed in us. We will do our best in the coming weeks to fulfill your expectations. It's my pleasure to announce the publication of several new screenshots (see here), and the publication of a trailer within the next few days. Even if the trailer doesn't show a specific level of our mod's progress, we have recently Chris declared inactive, and put a remarkable amount of progress behind us.
Sub Menu System
Since we wanted to bring a lot of new units into the mod, it was clear from the beginning that the 26 build buttons would not be sufficient for all the units we will add. The fact that in every era, more than 11 Special Structures are available in space, means half the available space is gone already. With all the new heroes and space units, and the new tech systems (more on that later), the limit of 26 buttons has always been impossible for us to work with. So we had to opt for an alternative and we finally came to the Sub Menu system. Chris wanted to implement this from the beginning, until he was declared inactive. He had uploaded some icons of this sub menu, but hadn't uploaded anything else. For this reason, we had to start from scratch and needed some time to implement the system. There are 3 subcategories: ship menu, structure menu, and research menu.

One and a thousand times, every S.T.A.L.K.E.R. player has thought… Will there ever be a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. based movie?
We have all waited for it, we have discussed it in forums, we have imagined it, supported it and voted it in polls but… we keep waiting! With good technology in their hands, many fans have made short films paying tribute to this spectacular game. Some we have loved, some not, but they are still short. They are like a chug of fresh water in the middle of the desert and even after we’ve been left speechless by some of them, we’ve still waited for more. Given the wait seemed to go on forever and our restless nature, we decided to shoot a complete movie in Uruguay, paying tribute to the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Universe.
STALKER: MONOLITH’S WHISPER GENESIS
Given the success of the second Cosplay and praises from many communities throughout the world, we started dreaming with something bigger: A short movie. Without ten cents of budget of course. We presented the project to a party and events video producer (crazy idea), which obviously didn’t work with such area (movies), but we had nothing to lose. To our amazement, not only they gave us the cameras… they gave full logistic and manpower support! We started having meetings, one after another, evaluating possibilites, limitations and a million obstacles more that came across the way.
Enough chatter, let’s spill the beans… What will there be in the movie? What is it about? Will there be factions? Artifacts? Mutants? Anomalies? As the project took shape, questions started to come. We even opened a FAQ section in our website. As an answer to “What is it about”, our movie’s plot is parallel to S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky and Shadow of Chernobyl, which in some parts crosses over with the games’ storyline/characters to keep it’s course. Some NPC such as Wolf are impersonated, while others like Lukash are just mentioned. There are some more details further about this subject.
So firstly I would like to congratulate Ashrak007 for winning the November picture of the Day League. You are now on the bullet point of fame and we hope to see more there as the competition progresses. It seems as though the league has been a success so far and we will be continuing it for the next couple of months as there have been some pretty cool potd submissions.
It hasn't been updated for a very long time, but thanks to AcidFluxxBass the Picture o The Month archive has now been restored and updated, so feel free to head on over there to see the winners of the last years PoTM's. The main link has also been moved to just under the PoTM thumbnail, so its easier for you all to find, and for those that cant, here it is for you anyway

Considering the age of Empire at War and the fact that there are less than a dozen players usually online, it's getting a huge amount of mods o_o
Anyway, there's so much to comment on, but the thing that most caught my attention was the PSP2... Why will Sony keep denying it? It's obvious they're working on it... The whole subject is just getting silly now, Sony should just announce the damned thing already D_D

The exposure sheet needs to be thin to allow the electric charge to transfer to the object, and not be insulated.
