Here it is the 31st version of the Weekly Gamefront Network News Update, the news part of the update covers the news side of the Network and the Gamefront Main site over the past week. There has been a fair bit of news from the Main site including a lot of trailers, reviews, previews and a lot more - some of this has been included below including lots of trailers and videos from the main gamefront site over the past week as well as more news from the network sites. Also of course there is the news from the Network Sites not as much as the main site but still just as important! Lots more news can be found from Gamefront News - Here
The most surprising feature of the week is a minecraft video where someone has actually attempted and succeeded in building New York Penn Station! Its a very unique video and I really recommend that you see it, I know myself that the trackwork alone for the station is fairly complex let alone the building! (the first article below )

EA’s cartoonish, cel-shaded extension of its popular Battlefield franchise is back with a new trailer. The clip touts the new Wake Island map, familiar to Battlefield 1942 veterans, introducing it with a goofy conceit about vacation in reference to the location’s tropical climate. After that, matters turn to the combat — the slender terrain of the atoll looks to provide lots of hair-raising chokepoints and opportunities for aerial combat. Tanks are also seen on the prowl trading salvos.

We got tripped up by a fake announcement of the Battlefield 3 system requirements about a month ago, but we’re fairly sure that these are legit, since they’re being listed by GameStop.

If you live near or in Dallas and are on the fence about whether or not to attend QuakeCon in four weeks, here’s a little bit more info to help you make an, ah, informed decision.
Bethesda is bringing three big ole titles to the convention: Prey 2, RAGE and, of course, Skyrim. Prey 2 and Skyrim will be demoed but not playable, and RAGE will definitely be playable. It’s worth noting that these will be the first playable demos of Prey 2 and Skyrim.
You’d think it’d be about time we’d get to play Skyrim, seeing as how it’s out in a few months. PAX might be your first chance for that.
Gamasutra spoke with Bethesda’s Todd Howard in a lengthy interview about Skyrim, and we gleaned this pretty tasty bit about the game’s mod tools, which will be referred to as the Creation Kit.
We put a big premium on our editor, which we then ship with the games. It’s going to come out again with Skyrim, the Creation Kit. So when it comes to content creation, we just have so much of it that we have to put a lot of development time into the tools, because the game is so big.
We’re hoping [the Creation Kit] will be available as a download on launch day. I don’t know if I can promise day-one, but it will be very close.
Well, we hope so, too, Todd. We hope so, too. Ah, I wish he had been more firm on a date for the mod tools just so I could hold him to it, but whatever.
BioWare has announced a new DLC pack for Dragon Age 2 titled Legacy, slated for release July 26 on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC/Mac. It promises to be playable from any point in the DAII campaign and will take players beyond the gates of Kirkwall into completely new locations — not simply the same locations with different paths blocked off.

I won’t lie — I’m not a fan of realistic, modern warfare FPS games. I’m an Unreal Tournament and Quake 3 Arena kind of guy. If I wanted to creep around an urban battlefield and shoot enemy soldiers with an MP5, I’d join the army.
But this mod makes me wish I had Call of Duty 4.
Galactic Warfare hurls CoD4 into the long ago, in a galaxy far, far away. This total conversion combines many of the known battlegrounds, characters and weapons of Star Wars with the gameplay of the CoD4-Multiplayer, allowing players to fight either as a trooper of the Imperial Forces or as a soldier from the Rebel Alliance.
I usually play through a demo two or three times after downloading it, just to get a good feel for a game before it launches. With the Sonic Generations demo, I can’t tell you how many times I played it but can confirm it was more than a few. That demo is great as far as this writer’s concerned. Almost perfect. However, my love of the demo is tinged with sadness, as I can’t stop remembering that the 2D brilliance is going to be followed by the considerably less pleasing 3D racing-style section I played at E3. There’s just no way SEGA would dare release a full-fledged 2D platformer on its own at retail, and I find myself asking … why? Why did we get it in our heads that you just can’t do that anymore?
Like many gamers who grew up in the nineties, I played a lot of 2D platformers. Sonic was joined by Zool, Mr. Nutz, Earthworm Jim, Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure and countless knock-offs, all boasting the 2D gameplay that undeniably defined the 16-bit generation. When technology allowed for 3D graphics, however, everything changed. Sony didn’t want grotty 2D gaming on its technologically superior PlayStation, and games like Spyro, Crash Bandicoot and Croc became the new platforming blood. We managed to get a handful, such as the well-respected Heart of Darkness and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, but 2D platformers mostly fell by the wayside. Over the intervening years, they never regained their respect.
It’s official: LIMBO is heading to Steam on Aug. 2, and it’ll make its way to PS3 on July 19 for U.S. customers, July 20 for European ones. The info is posted in big bold letters on LIMBO.org.
We’re big fans of LIMBO and the guys at Play Dead and their puzzle-creating ways, so this sounds pretty damn spiffy to us. There’s no more information yet — price point, for example — but we’ll keep you guys in the loop as more information becomes available.
At EA’s Summer Showcase today, Criterion announced a new downloadable Burnout title for PSN and Xbox Live called Burnout Crash (which we had heard about before). As you might expect based on that title, it’s all about crashing your car into other cars and stuff. Unlike other Burnout games, though, Burnout Crash is a topdown racer.
Here’s how the games creative director, Richard Franke, describes it:
Burnout CRASH! is a crazy mix of pinball and game shows. We’ve evolved the core gameplay which everyone loved about Crash Mode, and expanded the whole experience using music, style and Autolog to create what we feel is the most mindless fun you can have on any gaming platform.
Whoa, I’ve been writing the title wrong this whole time. It’s not “Burnout Crash” — it’s Burnout CRASH! Sheesh. So much enthusiasm in that title.

A second preorder offer has been announced today for Dead Island: gamers who preorder Dead Island from Amazon will receive a digital art book including game concept art of characters, zombies, environments, and more.
Along with this announcement, Aubrey Norris, Manager of Marketing & PR at Deep Silver, offered some insight on her playthrough experience:
I’ve been doing a playthrough of Dead Island lately and every once in a while I’d get to some area that was super gorgeous and picturesque and my eyes would totally glaze over for like five minutes while I’m whispering, “It’s so beautiful…” Until some zombie f*** would come out of nowhere and start chewing on my face. What a prick!
You’ve got to hand it to Aubrey — she knows how to make a game sound awesome.
What would a driving game be without a hefty dose of car porn? Driver: San Francisco releases at long last this August, and its new trailer lingers lovingly on virtual automobiles like the 2006 Ford GT, the 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle, Dodge’s 2009 Viper SRT10 ACR, the ’86 Camaro, the 1974 Ford Gran Torino, and the 1971 Pontiac LeMans. These classics (and modern classics) are accompanied by a dizzying number of other licensed cars, as evidenced by the parade of manufacturer logos that kick off the video.

At EA’s Summer Showcase today they announced the very first Dragon Age II story DLC, called Legacy. If you don’t hate the game so much that you’ve burned your copy already, Legacy will be worth a look because it takes you to places you haven’t already been to 4,000 times, and they promise that it’ll be a more tactical experience than the main game was. Which I guess means you’ll have to do something other than spam the normal attack over and over again. Also, you get new weapons!
They showed off a brief demo set in a green-ish Grey Warden prison, where they fought some bad guys who had some pretty cool ambushes. Did I just say that something about Dragon Age II is pretty cool? Oh man.
The new DLC will be out July 26 on all platforms. It’ll cost $10. No word on how substantial it’ll be.

I think it’s reasonably safe to say that you know we feel about mods (Protip: We freaking love them).
This morning, we’re more than a little sad, because we’ve learned that EA has confirmed that they have no plans to release mod tools for Battlefield 3. In an interview with German magazine GameStar, EA senior VP Patrick Soderlund had this to say on the subject of mod tools:
If you look at the Frostbite engine, and how complex it is, it’s going to be very difficult for people to mod the game because of the nature of the set up of levels, of the destruction and all those things. It’s quite tricky. So we think it’s going to be too big of a challenge for people to make a mod.
The last we heard, DICE was still considering whether or not to release tools for the game, and had confirmed that if they did release mod tools, they wouldn’t be in the same vein as those for Battlefield 2.

Sid Meier’s Civilization has a well-deserved reputation for being one of the most addictive game franchises in existence. Its “just one more turn” mantra is common knowledge to strategy gamers and their long-suffering friends, girlfriends, husbands, and wives.
Even better known, however, is the globe-spanning, movie-inspiring behemoth Facebook, which as of recently can claim 750 million active users. Many of these users, in recent years, have begun using the social network to play games. Now, thanks to the efforts of Sid Meier himself, you can use Facebook to play Civilization.
CivWorld, as his new, terrifyingly addictive title is known, just entered open beta. Developers Firaxis, in conjunction with publishers 2K Games, are still hammering out the finer points of the gameplay, but the essential structure is in place, and players have been flocking to the world of CivWorld in droves.
Since its March, 2011 release, 3Ds has been met with general acclaim, technology-wise, but the lack of games contributed to a decidely lukewarm overall reception and since then, it hasn’t exactly been flying off the shelves. What Nintendo needs is a reason for people to buy it. Maybe some halfway decent games. Maybe an online presence that isn’t bunk. Or maybe the threat that it might soon no longer exist? Yeah, that’ll work.
[A] new lawsuit is accusing Nintendo of patent infringement, saying that the Mario house used that glasses-free 3D tech without proper licensing from the patent holder. Tomita Technologies, founded by inventor Seijiro Tomita, filed the lawsuit on June 22, according to the complaint obtained by Gamasutra. Zounds! Better run out and buy one before they’re given the Bratz treatment!
Tomita’s suit asks a court to determine ‘that both Nintendo LTD and Nintendo of America have infringed and continue to infringe on the patent, and to permanently enjoin the defendants from the alleged infringement.” The complaint also details how Mr. Tomita, a 20 year Sony veteran, has 70 patents to his name and is the holder or co-holder of more than a hundred more. And among the many inventions he is credited with helping develop? “Stereoscopic image picking up and display system based upon optical axes cross-point information.” Shorter that title: a glasses-free way to view 3D images. And Tomita holds the patent in the US and in Japan.

Earlier today we learned how a former Sony engineer is suing Nintendo for allegedly stealing his 3D technology, but two people fighting over who invented 3D? It’s like fighting over who invented smellovision. Yeah, we said it. It’s gimicky. It does literally nothing to improve a game or movie. If you’re using those stupid glasses, it’s hard to see. And don’t get us started about 3D games. You have to hold your neck in the most uncomfortable position ever, or else you’ll fall into a death-trap. And that’s ignoring how terrible 3D-rendered characters look in actual 3D. Honestly, the only purpose is to con people into spending way more money than they normally would. Who the hell buys this crap?
People who love awesome looking shiz, that’s who! 3D looks extremely cool. And it does things regular D can’t, like make giant special effects monsters look menacing instead of inserted-in. Plus, let’s be real, sports are so much more incredible on a 3D TV. The fact is, modern 3D shows us entertainment in ways we never thought possible on TV or in theaters, and haters are just old timers who can’t stand the fact that they’re confused by new things. I mean, shit, have you seen Step Up 3D? Move into a home already.
Jesus, we know reasonable people can disagree, but we can’t both be right. So, you tell us, who’s right? 3D haters, or 3D fans?

It sounds a bit wonky, but we’ve actually gotten hands on From Dust, and it’s a pretty good time. It’s a little bit hard to explain the way you, a spirit called The Breath, can grab elements and deposit them in different places in the world — which is why Ubisoft has sent along the trailer below. It gives a pretty fair idea of how From Dust handles, what it’s all about, and why it seems like a compelling new sim game.
In a smart move to counteract the summer slump most multiplayer games experience, Hi-Rez studios has announced that July is “player appreciation month” in its sci-fi MMO shooter, Global Agenda.
Starting July 6th, each week, a different class will have a 50% discount at their class shop for AP purchases. The Assault class is first to receive the special deal, followed by Recon, Robotics and finally Medic. All class-based devices from BioFeedback Beams to Sprint Stealth will be on sale.
Here’s a lightweight (~3 meg) mod for Grand Theft Auto 4 that ramps the graphics processing into overdrive — seriously, there’s a chance your video card will catch fire. It contains new shaders and lighting effects that can cause overheating on certain Nvidia cards; namely, the GF8800, high-end cards from the GF2xx series, and most of the GF4xx and GF5xx series.
If you experience artifacting, bugs, inexplicable slowdowns, blue screens, nausea, or explosive diarrhea, discontinue use immediately.
You’ve been warned.
The mod includes improved lighting effects that are adaptive to the day/night cycle as well as weather conditions, be they sunny, cloudy, or rainy. Lens flares add that new Hollywood camera feel, depth of field makes distance objects appear out of focus, and what appears to be HDR lighting — or at least some form of adaptive lighting — prevents overly bright areas from “whiting out.”
To install this mod, follow these steps:
NOTE: Back up any files that you will be asked to replace.
Download iCEnhancer v1.2.
Open iCEnhancer12.rar and extract the contents to your desktop or a temporary folder.
Open the folder “iCEnhancerData” and select all of its contents — including the folders.
Copy the contents of the folder.
Navigate to your GTA 4 installation folder (/Rockstar Games/Grand Theft Auto IV).
Paste the copied files and folders. If you are asked whether you wish to replace any files, select Yes.
Optional: To install the enhanced lens flare effect, right-click on the iCEnhancerLensFlare.rar and select “Extract Here,” replacing any files, as necessary.

Here’s your tidbit of trivia for the day: tilt-shift is a form of photography that makes use of camera movement to simulate a miniature scale-model scene.
Now that you have something intelligent to say the next time you’re trying to pick up a girl at a bar, let’s dive into this Grand Theft Auto 4 time-lapse video that simulates a tilt-shift effect. To what end? Who cares — it looks quaint.
You know, if you told me this morning that today I would write about two games whose titles consisted of the word “rhythm” crammed together with another word, I would have hit you in the face and told you to let me sleep, and then when I woke up later I would have said you’re crazy. And yet that’s what happened. First there was Final Fantasy Theatrhythm, and now there’s Harmonix’s Vidrhythm.
Harmonix trademarked the name in the US, and when Joystiq asked them about it, they confirmed that Vidrhythm is a thing that they are working on. What it is, nobody knows. Sigh.
Two days ago, Kotaku posted an article on pro gaming in which the writer’s insulting views on eSports riled up an army of angry fans.
In a recent article, PC Gamer stepped up to the plate to rebut many of the factual errors in Kotaku’s article and defend eSports’ honor.
Gaming’s rapidly shedding its social stigma. Over half of the people in the UK are considered active gamers: our hobby is not the preserve of the maladjusted or socially weird. Why then, articles like Jen’s feel the need to disparage a rapidly growing, incredibly exciting offshoot of general gaming, purely because it’s not a traditional prism through which to view games?
Compare that to a choice quote from the Kotaku article:

Mad Catz Interactive, Inc. (“Mad Catz”) (AMEX/TSX: MCZ) announced today it has entered into a Publisher License Agreement with Microsoft® Corporation (“Microsoft”). The agreement allows Mad Catz to submit games to be published on the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft.
Darren Richardson, the President and Chief Executive Officer of Mad Catz Interactive, Inc. stated, “The execution of the Xbox 360 Publisher License Agreement marks an important milestone as we pursue our longer term goal of expanding our participation in developing, publishing and distributing games.”
Sure, Mad Catz said that thing back in May about forming a game development studio to make flight sims, but I didn’t think they were serious! Apparently they are, though, because they are now legally allowed to release games for 360. Sometimes the world just surprises ya.
Seeing as Mass Effect 3 only becomes more successful with the release of each successive game in the series, Electronic Arts is offering preorders on an “N7 Deluxe Edition” of the game, which costs more and includes more content. And in order to make sure that people use its online store without actually having to offer anything by way of competition to other Internet stores, EA is offering the downloadable deluxe edition for PC only on Origin.
Here’s where it gets dumb, though. According to the graphic on the Origin site for Mass Effect 3, the deluxe download includes exactly three extra pieces of in game content: alternative squadmate costumes, whatever an N7 weapon pack is, and a Robotic Dog.
Maybe I’m underestimating the incredible worth of adding a robotic dog to Mass Effect 3. Maybe that’s exactly what the series needs. Robotic animals worked so well in… uh… Jimmy Newtron (?), that it only makes sense to bring them into the deep and dramatic science fiction universe BioWare has created for Mass Effect 3.
The upcoming MMO Asta will be showcased at this year’s Gamescom in Cologne, Germany. Taking place in a spectacular fantasy world rooted in Asian myth and powered by CryENGINE 3, Asta provides an exceptionally detailed atmosphere, offering gamers around the world varied gameplay including PvP, PvE quests, raids, crafting and much more.
Eagle-eyed Bond fans have spotted a mystery item on the list of games Activision is bringing to Comic Con. Alongside familiar franchise titles like Prototype, X-men, and Spider-man, a “new 007 game” has appeared. Speculation reigns as to the particulars.
Bizarre Creations, the company that produced last years James Bond 007: Blood Stone, is now closed. The new film isn’t due for a while. Most compelling is the speculation that this project will have something to do with the recent spate of Goldeneye-related domain name registration. Maybe Comic Con will bring news a of a high definition reboot along the lines of the Wii version that came out in 2010.

Most people regard FunCom’s forthcoming conspiracy theory MMO The Secret World as a gigantic gamble, especially after the flop that was Age of Conan. Nevertheless, the Norwegian developers have demonstrated a certain endearing flair for the dramatic. This cinematic trailer for the game’s Illuminati faction begins mundanely enough, with a normal-looking man sitting at a bar (he’s even wearing a sweater). When the man pulls out a cigarette and it bursts into flame without lighter or match, however, something uncanny is clearly going on. As he pays for his scotch on the rocks with a handful of coins tossed onto the bar, the man suddenly manipulates them with his mind, and they float in a little circle.
It’s not until he heads to the bathroom for a piss, though, that things really start to get strange. The Secret World, it seems, is all around us — even at the urinal at the end of row. You can stream the trailer below, or download it from our fast, free servers.
It isn’t a big secret that Nintendo’s online presence is terrible. While the thrill of watching Mario run across your screen while you wait endlessly for the tiny-ass SNES game to download is compelling, having basically zero games to play online, unless they have the word ‘Kart’ in the title, gets old. Nintendo seems dimly aware that maybe the vast majority of gamers like having the option to actually use online features, which is why the company has been making noises like they’re going to do something about that. Recently, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime cryptically said that Wii U’s online presence would be ‘flexible’. In an interview with Forbes, he clarified that a bit with actual, on-the-record statements about next year’s Wii U console. Unfortunately, it’s a bag of fail.
FORBES: Your online services are very different than what your competitors offer. Isn’t something missing, that you can’t offer the sort of experience I can get on Xbox Live?
I don’t think it is an issue for us, and here’s why. We’ve seen what our competitors have done, and we’ve acknowledged that we need to do more online, starting with the launch of our eShop on Nintendo 3DS, and we’re going to continue to build our online capability. For Wii U, we’re going to take that one step further, and what we’re doing is creating a much more flexible system that will allow the best approaches by independent publishers to come to bear. So instead of a situation where a publisher has their own network and wants that to be the predominant platform, and having arguments with platform holders, we’re going to welcome that. We’re going to welcome that from the best and the brightest of the third party publishers.
A new trailer for the dark indie action RPG Path of Exile has unveiled the Templar, a class that favors both strength and intelligence attributes and skills.
Path of Exile has been in development for four years by New Zealand indie studio Grinding Gear Games, and based on the screenshots and gameplay footage, it’s looking like a spiritual successor to Diablo 2. The mature, gritty, bloody, visceral theme feels a lot more like Diablo than Diablo 3′s atmosphere.
Chris Wilson, Grinding Gear Games’ co-founder, said this about the Templar class:
In battle, the Templar can play as a traditional melee character or a hybrid battlemage, able to endure substantial damage while slaying monsters with spells. By dealing some of his damage with strong melee weapons and the rest with a barrage of spells, he offers many new combat options over the traditional warrior or spellcaster classes.

Paradox CEO Fredrik Wester recently told PC Gamer that his company — who have produced recent hits like Magicka and Mount and Blade — is just about entirely supported by digital sales at this point.
This year we’re close to ninety percent of our revenue being digital. Retail sales are like a bonus for us now. We don’t really need retailers any more and that is a release because retailers have not been good for the industry. They’ve not been good for the creative part of the industry, for finding new cool games.

What’s funny about this to me is that I don’t think I realized there were people who buy Paradox games at retail. I don’t think I even know anybody who does that, and it wouldn’t surprise me to learn that nobody I know knows anybody who does that. But I guess that’s why retail only makes up ten percent of sales for them.

DigiTimes sources say that Sony is going to begin production on a Playstation 4 by the end of this year for a launch in 2012, and that the new console will include a Kinect-esque motion sensor, because we really need more of that s–t.
That’s the current hot rumor, and not really one I’m inclined to believe. If it were true, though, you can expect an announcement at TGS in September. If we don’t hear anything there, then this rumor is bunk, unless Sony is trying to keep all eyes on the Vita for now. They don’t wanna steal that thunder.
Seriously, though, I don’t believe this rumor is true. I also don’t want it to be true, because I want the Wii U to always be considered a current generation machine, which it won’t be if Sony and Microsoft put out new consoles next year, too.
Remember that highly in-depth write-up I did after heading to E3 and watching Irrational Games’ 15-minute demo of BioShock: Infinite? What’s that? It was way too damn long and you didn’t read it? Lucky you!
Now we have that demo in a video, and that video is right down there. It contains a huge amount of gameplay. You already didn’t read about it, so I’ll just stop writing. Go ahead and watch.
With San Diego’s summer nerd orgy close on the horizon, it’s wise to stay abreast of all the video game goodness that developers and publishers will be showing off at the Con. Today, Sony announced a list of panels that serves as a useful primer on the games that the company will have on hand.
Firstly, and maybe most intriguingly, panel attendees will be able to get a better look at Journey, an artsy, impressionistic title from Flower developers thatgamecompany. Also present will be Resistance 3, for all your four-eyed skull needs. Uncharted 3, already sampled by many thanks to its public multiplayer beta, will arrive at Comic-con with its keffiyeh flapping in the wind.
Twisted Metal, resurrected by David Jaffe after years in franchise purgatory, will rattle down the highway of recovery with a panel on Saturday the 23rd. Warhawk follow-up Starhawk rounds out the repertoire, bringing third-person action, used-future sci-fi, and flying mechs.

Apparently, people think the Playstation Store is too text-heavy, and Sony is responding, or so goes a RegHardware report.
They say Sony is market testing the new version of the store now. They say the new store will feature live search and an IMDB-style interlinking layout, in which games and movie pages will have names of key players and studio infr, and you’ll be able to select thos details to be taken to a list of all the things those people or studio have been involved with.
They say the new store will have a big ole Deals of the week section, and it will be reskinned with new brightly colored backgrounds.
That’s cool. The current store is pretty, ah, cluttered, so it could certainly use an update.
One of the more tedious things we’re subjected to as PC gamers is upgrading graphics cards. You’ve got to pop open your case, unplug cables, drag out your old card and insert the new one, all without forgetting to ground yourself. After all, you don’t want to short out that shiny new card, right?
Although this isn’t a ton of work, it is tedious. Wouldn’t it be easier if the video card was on the outside? The new Sony Vaio Z makes that happen. A new laptop built on a thin form factor, the Vaio Z employs a new docking station that contains not only hard drives, optical drives, and connections for additional displays, but also holds the graphics card itself.
The utility of such a system should be instantly apparent. You can travel around (work, school, whatever) during the day, and once you get home, you can connect your docking station and get your gaming fix.
The base video card for the system listed on Sony’s site is an AMD HD6650M, which honestly isn’t all that much of an upgrade over the Intel onboard graphics, but if Sony offers more options, or if users can supplement their own high-end cards, then the sky really could be the limit, and laptops could suddenly be kick-ass gaming machines.
You can take a look at the new Vaio Z at the Sony Europe site. No word yet on when it might hit the US.
Sony’s choice of GPU is a little uninspiring. The AMD HD6650M will be better than the Intel graphics, but not by much. It may bode well for the future, though, if the idea proves popular. Light Peak certainly has the bandwidth to support high end graphics power, so who knows?
Did you know that Square Enix is putting together a Final Fantasy-themed rhythm game for the Nintendo 3DS? Yeah, neither did I. So apparently this game, according to Famitsu, will feature rhythm versions of battles from old Final Fantasy games, and the rhythm, of course, will go along with music from those games.. Also, it’s called Final Fantasy Theatrhythm. Yeah, I’m serious.
My mind is absolutely blown. That’s seriously the most awesome game title I’ve ever heard of, by a long shot. I can’t wait to put this baby on my games shelf.
A new fighter is introduced in this new trailer for 505 Games’ visceral MMA title. Muay Thai fighter Malapeit has made quite a name for himself in the combat sports world, and the Italian developers were obviously keen to include him in their game. His arsenal of devastating Muay Thai kicks will provide an attractive option to players looking for a fighter with good range and stand-up technique.
The flying and sweat and blood in the trailer certainly showcases 505′s realistic, gory depiction of the sport. Not sure why they chose to depict their new marquee fighter in a submission hold at the end of the clip. Either way, you can check it out for yourself via download or streaming, below.
A new trailer for The Lord of the Rings: War in the North has been released, showing where the game intersects with the movie trilogy. As Frodo’s adventure begins to the East, a new threat arises in the North. War in the North takes gamers to the unexplored locations of Northern Middle-earth, while also visiting familiar regions and characters from the movies.
Crossing paths with Aragorn in Bree, seeking Elrond’s counsel in Rivendell, traversing the Misty Mountains and Mirkwood… All while battling many of the foes seen in the movies: giant spiders, orcs, and trolls.
OK, so maybe referring to this as a “pre-order bonus” is a bit disingenuous, but whatever. GameStop is having a sweepstakes with Deus Ex: Human Revolution, where a pre-order and purchase of the game will get you an entry*.
What can you win? Only a ridiculous sounding prize package that includes a $5,500 3D TV, a $2,500 entertainment system, a $3,000 sound system, a motorized mount for the TV, some badass new couches and s–t, an Xbox 360 with Kinect, a PS3 with Move and a Wii and a $500 GameStop gift card.

For FIFA 12, EA Sports has been looking for a way to make the game feel more realistic. If you check out the video below, you’ll see at least some of how they solved the problem: it’s called “vision,” and it makes it so players aren’t just aware of everything happening on the field — they’re limited to things they can actually see.
Sounds like a cool way to make the characters in the game act more like people and less like a group of super-mutants with mind-reading abilities.
That image comes from, as it says, Konsolentreff. The forum poster who put this up doesn’t provide any context, so I don’t know if I should think this is fake or not. Others are speculating that it’s an online pass, which enables online play with a voucher code included with new copies of the game. Sony has done this before with Modnation Racers for PSP, so it wouldn’t be that much of a stretch for that to be the case.
Well there’s something I wasn’t expecting to read today.
In honor of the Space Shuttle Atlantis’s final launch, my hometown newspaper, The Huntsville Times, put together a list of fun facts about the space shuttle. no. 1 was pretty surprising.
An Xbox 360 has far more power than the flight computer
The flight computer aboard the space shuttle has less than one percent of the power of an Xbox 360 game console. Astronauts load programs directing the phases of a mission – liftoff, orbit, landing – into the computer one at a time after removing the program for the previous segment. Why hasn’t NASA upgraded the computer? The agency values its 30-year history of reliability. That said, astronauts don’t go into space with only one computer. Crew laptops and other laptops also make the trip.
So NASA hasn’t updated the shuttle’s flight computer in 30 years, and yet space travel is still so expensive that the government keeps cutting funding for it? I think I smell some bulls–t here. There’s only so much of my disbelief that I can suspend, oh government of mine.

The WaW team has prepared several custom maps ranging from naval and air combat off the Island of Malta to the hills of the German Alps.
Take to sea on our three naval maps and experience the awesome firepower of Battleships such as the H.M.S. Hood, H.M.S. Prince of Wales and the fearsome Bismarck. Take the helm and command the ship and her guns or defend her against air attack by using the many anti-aircraft batteries. Counter the heavy ships with Cruisers, destroyers, torpedo equipped PT boats, Schnellboats, or stalk your prey from the depths with Submarines. Seasick? Don't worry. Sink those beasts from the air or from Coastal gun emplacements.
Battle it out in the streets of Maupertus in Normandy or fields of Moerbrugge in the Netherlands.

- Tyrrhenian Sea: Fight for control of several small islands with heavy air and naval support.

The latest version is 1.2.5 BETA, and if you watch the preview video above you can clearly see how much better this makes the game look. Do ignore the stuttering in the video though, that’s apparently just FRAPS and not how the game runs with the mod applied. The one drawback of wanting to use this mod is the fact it doesn’t work with the latest official GTA IV patch (1.070). According to IcE this is due to the shaders and shadow system being changed in the game which makes it incompatible with his mod. However this does make the game far more realistic!
