Quote:FAYETTE, Ala. - A 20-year-old whose lawyers claimed the video game "Grand Theft Auto" and childhood abuse caused him to kill three small-town police officers was convicted Tuesday of capital murder.
The jury deliberated for just over an hour before convicting Devin Moore.
Jurors were to return Wednesday to begin the sentencing phase. Moore could face the death penalty.
Defense lawyers had partly blamed Moore's actions on the hours he spent playing video games from the "Grand Theft Auto" series, in which players shoot police officers and steal cars.
While the judge barred jurors from hearing testimony linking the 2003 shootings to the game, defense lawyer Jim Standridge reminded them that Moore, after his arrest, told police "Life is a video game; everybody has to die sometime."
Moore had pleaded not guilty and not guilty by reason of mental defect.
His family and friends left court without comment, while the victims' relatives and friends gathered to hug and thank prosecutors.
Prosecutor Lyn Durham said Tuesday that Moore knew what he was doing when he grabbed a patrolman's gun and killed two officers and a radio dispatcher.
"And he knew it was wrong," she said.
Officers had taken Moore to police headquarters for booking on a stolen auto charge. Authorities said Moore, who was 18 at the time, grabbed one of the officer's guns and fatally shot all three victims in the head before fleeing in a patrol car.
The victims' families have filed a civil suit against the video game manufacturer and two stores, claiming Moore killed the three after repeatedly playing "Grand Theft Auto III" and "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City." No trial date has been set in the civil lawsuit.
A spokesman for Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc., parent company of "Grand Theft Auto" manufacturer Rockstar Games, did not immediately return calls Tuesday seeking comment.
its natural human behaviour to try and place blame for an any incident anywhere but on themselvs , its obvious that f somone could so this theve obviously have some long standing mental problems, most likly before he even say a GTA game, its stuf like this that makes me wonder if the human race actually deserves to exist
have to say if i did kill som1 i would actually blame a game or summit coz then u get declared insane and will either get off or have a short sentance so somtimes it is good to point the blame somwhere else

No, it will never end. The reason? Weak people need to find something to blame for their problems, that's the way it is, this explains the behaviour of the irresponsible parents and the politicians who are vying for their votes.
The media, on the other hand, have always been good at spreading fear..;
(Hey, it sells, I wonder what the paper sales numbers were on September 11 were compared to the previous day?)
...and naturally news specials about how the irresponsible parents' little darling (yeah right) children might be playing a game where you can murder cops..
(Don't you just love how they say you get points for shooting cops? How long ago did they give up having POINTS in games? Why would a sensible parent buy Little 5-year old Johnny a game that has the word THEFT in the title anyway?!)
And, at the same time, the news media and TV are taking an opportunity to abolish one of it's largest competitors, video games. Every minute we spends playing games is less time watching TV (and all the commercials it comes with) and that means less advertising money for the TV stations. It's all very simple, Follow the money.

its as true as it can ever get! idiots and weak-hearts are blaming the games saying that the kids and youngsters get violent!? i got alot of litteraly bloddy games going from the gta 3-vc-sa. soldier of fortune 1and 2 hl2, doom 2 and 3, duke nukem(never was a fan) some 3d swat games, max payne 1 and 2, diablo 2 with exp pack, hitman 1, 2 and 3 and the list can go on for a minute. and i really have never punched another person in the face, never stabbed or shot anyone, and ive only killed ants outside my house with a hot water gun everyone who thinks that video games are making us crazy are just.... idiots! it may be true that some of the kids around the world are idiots, and do as the games or tv shows do(like that kid that played superman at age 4) so if someone wants to keep their kids under controll, then atleast wait with the fun games untill they are atleast 12 years old!
