Rumours of a GTA game to Appear on the Nintendo Wii? - Rumours

Apparently Nintendo are in talks with take two interactive, the company who own Rockstar Games. Although at the moment there is only talk of a baseball game on the Wii so far. Considering that there will be more M Rated (or 18+ in the UK) games on the Nintendo Wii compared to the Gamecube and that Nintendo are talking to Take Two Interactive. Unfortunately this is only speculation at the current time as noted by many sites including MTV, Gamespot.

This only really leaves a couple of questions that could be answered. Would GTA be a good game for the Nintendo Wii, with its motion control remote or will it fail to be effective as more people would rush to the PS3 and XBOX 360 versions?

What we heard: At its pre-Electronic Entertainment Expo press conference in May, Microsoft stunned attendees by announcing that Grand Theft Auto IV would be released on the Xbox 360 the same day and date it arrives on the PlayStation 3. Though Sony reps would later play it down, the development meant that the long exclusivity window that prior GTA games had on the PlayStation 2 would not survive the next-generation console transition.

But while Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas all appeared on the Xbox, no GTA game ever made it to the GameCube. In fact, the only GTA games to make it to a Nintendo platform were the handheld top-down titles Grand Theft Auto (Game Boy Color, 1999), Grand Theft Auto 2 (GBC, 2000), and Grand Theft Auto Advance (Game Boy Advance, 2004).

Rampant speculation about the potential future of the GTA series on Nintendo Wii has been fired up online over the last 24 hours, seemingly coming from some serious 'reading into' of a fairly innocuous comment yesterday from Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime, who simply told MTV News that: "I'll be spending some time later today with the folks over at Take-Two to see what type of support they can give our console."

Take Two bringing M-rated games to Wii?

Quote:
While Nintendo consoles have never been a real target for M-rated games, that could all be changing soon. Several M-rated games have been confirmed as coming to the Wii, including The Godfather and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent. And don't forget Ubisoft's flagship Red Steel -- it's gotta be M-rated, right?

Quote:
As for other '06 candidates, attention should be paid to games not coming from Nintendo itself, like the gesture-driven surgery of Atlus' "Trauma Center: Second Opinion" and Ubisoft's "Rayman Raving Rabbids." A new "Madden" designed just for Wii is also in the works for this year, guaranteeing one of gaming's biggest series a firm presence on the console. That showing brought to mind the most potent third-party franchise that appears on any system but those made by Nintendo: the Take Two-published "Grand Theft Auto." Microsoft score a coup announcing in May that October 2007's "GTAIV" will arrive on Xbox 360 at the same time it comes out for PS3. But Nintendo has never hosted a "GTA" on a home console.

Nintendo's leaders used to dismiss the series and tell the press it did not represent the future of games. Said Fils-Aime: "We're reaching out to every publisher, frankly every day. I'll be spending some time later today with the folks over at Take Two to see what type of support they can give our console. ... The fact is there will be M-rated content on the Wii console. EA has already announced that they're bringing 'The Godfather' to our console. And we want every single best-selling game to be available on Wii. Whatever that content is."
