Site Issues UPDATED - FileFront News

UPDATE.
All the bugs have been reported and are being worked on.
The reported bugs are
Members having problems logging in.
Voting on PotD and Files is not working.
Voting on polls goes to a blank page.

You do not need to report these bugs. However if you are having any other problems with the sites then let us know.
Comments are reopened for you.

Goody
------------------------------------------------------------
You will no doubt have noticed a few issues with all the sites. Since the main site was updated there were issues with the files and that was promptly fixed. Then the newly added files were returning a 404 page which is being worked on.

All this week the network sites are being worked on to fix multiple issues with the back end of the sites. This is a prelude to the Network sites being upgraded and possibly redesigned. The owners are working hard so that the work being done to fix all issues will be completed by Friday and have employed a dedicated member of staff to make this happen. Unfortunately on a network of this scale there may be further interruptions of service during this week and this is just one of those interruptions.
This is a small price to pay to get the sites running smoothly for all our patrons here. We do understand that it can be frustrating to some of you but we assure you that the down time will be kept to a absolute minimum.

This is a exciting time for all of us here at FileFront as the sites are now getting the full attention they deserve. The owners that took over after ZD was going to close us are throwing everything into all aspects of the FileFront network of sites including the main site and the forums.

Thank you for your patience.

Goody

If the sites are getting redesigned, then it's a really good thing. I was thinking recently that it needed improvements.

Take your time! I'm just glad filefront is still here at all, after the ZD closing scare...I'd much rather go without it for a short while for updates than to have it go down permanently! Keep up the good/hard work...and thanks on the behalf of all gamers big grin

Indeed, I cannot wait to see the new updates. But, well, I'm a little confused whenever something on a site changes (like how the forums sort of went different than what I was used to), but hopefully it won't change the layout of these pages too much.

Anyway, I know it'll take a while for you guys to get everything working properly, but hey, for updates? I'm down with a few problems! As long as everyone remains patient, maybe you guys can actually get all of the problems fixed without being distracted by so many people whining, eh? Hopefully they'll keep up the patience, but I can't speak for everyone... >_>

They will keep the network up at all costs.
Please be patient until the weekend, it should be fixed then.

We are aware of the current problems like the log in and new files going all 404 on you all.
The tech team are working on this and it should be fixed on schedule (end of Friday see the actual news item)
Thank you for keeping us informed of the errors as they have occurred. Rest assured we have been passing them on and they are being dealt with in order of priority.

So why have you had to suffer and how does all this benefit you ? The truth is the disruption was completely unexpected on the scale that it was. All the sites have been moved to far superior hardware which will make all the sites a lot smoother and allow FileFront to continue to grow. During the move there were a few more problems that originally expected and as the sites were already having problems the decision was taken to use this time to fix lots of things on the back end.

What can you expect to see once the work is done,
Visually nothing will change straight away however because of the work done this week it will make adding new sites much easier for the tech team and they will be able to start on redesigning the sites safe in the knowledge that the current sites are stable.

It is a exciting time here at FileFront as we cast off the old ZD days and start to see real progress on what is one of the biggest gaming netowrks on the web.

I don't exactly get your problem as matter of fact you are logged in to post on these news items. Log in via the comment forms until this error is fixed and don't forget to tick "Remember my username and password" so you remain logged in.

So user id and PW will allow you to post comments but I have the same issue logging onto the site itself...so until an official fix posting arrives just hope your user ID and password hasn't been hijacked.....

For some reason it says I am baned on A2 files. It says this:

Hello jetnova16,

You have been banned from posting comments on armada2.filefront.com until 12-31-2037 00:00 for the following reason:

And it doesn't say a reason. Is this caused by the overhaul and can it be fixed soon? I also sent an email, but I don't know if my IP is right, so I Don't know if it will help.

This ban has occured very recently and seems to apply the comment ban for one specific users to everyone using the site. Don't worry, as the message shows this is not your username you are not banned.

I am having the same log in problems, when I type the username and password at the top of the screen, nothing happens, although strangely enough I can log in to leave comments? I have a picture I wanted to submit for POTD, but I cant upload it because it says I need to be logged in to do that even after I have logged in?

Not a problem, although I'm quite ashamed about how my above comment reflects my tiredness. If anyone else finds phrasing or spelling errors in it you may keep them.

Anyways, expect this to be fixed soon wink

As update, I just talked to a friend of mine and he said it won't work if you do it via the network news, but will work if you go to a random file or site news item of the site you are visiting and log in from the comment forms there. At least for him it did, might be worth trying.

Officially there is no fix yet, the problem right now is to find out from several thousand lines of code which one is messing up here. I'm afraid we can only ask you to be a bit more patient, I know I'm repeating that since days but this is what happens when you try to bring a whole network up to modern standards which lacks years of development thanks to a certain "company".

It's odd. I can post comments, but I can't seem to login on EaWFiles. I can't see the smileys on the left of the comment being posted, and when I click Login, it seems to only reload the page.

You have been able to read above as the "I have to test it too" shows, and yet you failed to read that this error is currently occuring to everyone visiting here?

I'm tired of repeating myself so I'll just say "it will be fixed soon and post about this as much as you want from here, it won't change from that".

Alright, to be honest I have completly lost the overview about this now and checking for eventually new bugs has turned out futile as you're all repeating what has been said numerous times before. Therefor I'm going to put this last comment here with a what-to-do list and I hope at least some will read this before posting below:

1. You can post comments as long as you log in via the comment forms, NOT the top menu.

2. We are aware you can currently not remain logged in and therefor voting, uploading files and POTDs is impossible for you.

3. If you discover anything new, please post here. If not, please don't waste database space by repeating those "tests" or simply posting about this long known error.

Thank you for reading, I can't promise I'll be able to answer all of your questions but this should show the FF network staff does care about you.

Ok people are just repeating the same old thing. We know there are issues with the sites atm. We know people are having problems logging in. We know there are problems with the voting system.
We are working on them so there is no need to report these bugs.
The comments are locked for now while these issues are worked on. Hopefully they will be fixed by Monday.
I will open the comments again then for you to report any OTHER bugs.

This is a Network wide post so all sites see this.

Regards
Goody

What ever you are being alerted to the chances are it has not come from us.
I visit a lot of the Network sites every day along with the forums and have never had such a alert.
However take a screen shot of the page you are on and post it in the forum I have linked to.

#124: The forms are currently inactive due to the links leading to a no-longer existing folder. If there is a site you wish to apply to please send an email to network@filefront.com and they will forward your application to the responsible site manager. smile

#125: Where did you get this link from? Also, it would be safer to post them without http:// so they don't become clickable by accident.

no offence admins, but where i go on filefront things have improved little for the last 8-or-9 days, and i hope you are doing your best to fix the bugs such as Potd's, smileys, etc, etc, etc, but can you give us a definitive date before we see the all clear again for filefront? If so that would be nice.

Hey guys,

Not really a site issue.....I think.

But can you please look into the
06-08 '09 Klingon D 4 Battlecruiser (1.0)
download from Mr John.

I've downloaded this a couple of times and it's not a Klingon battlecruiser
you get with this download.

Godspeed with the bug fixes!

hey yeah goody step on the ball !!
get the man his klingon battlecruiser !!
and while you're at it, i want my mtv !!

titanic passenger: sir ?, sir ? sir !
captain: what ?! what is it ?! we're trying to keep this ship afloat in time for the passengers to escape !
titanic passenger: ah yes and a good show of it also . my compliments to your remaining crew so far in their endeavor...it's just that, and i do hate to complain during a moment like this but the roasted duckling i ordered earlier this evening was not a duckling but rather an aged gaming hen . thought you would like to speak to the cook at your earliest convenience, sport . if we don't have order, we'd have chaos, eh ? God speed with fixing that hole, admiral .

my man, shouldn't you be contacting the modder who submitted the klingon battlecruiser mod in the first place ?

see you moved up in the filefront world, goody . why seems only yesterday yesterday yesterday yesterday yesterday....

# 145: Could you provide a link please? I'm not even sure which site you are posting this from...

# 144: Trust me, most of us share your feelings, but let me explain something. Over the last 3 years the systems this network and FileFront were running on got little to no upgrades at all, and those upgrades were nothing but provisoric fixing, sorta like patchwork.

The previous owners Ziff Davis only worked by the "If it doesn't give a 404, don't fix it" principle, while now you have the exact opposite of new owners who want to bring this up to today's standards. The thing is, they don't do patchwork but really upgrade things now, and those patches mentioned before are collapsing over it. It's like trying to close a big hole while several small ones around it tear open.

The improvements though aren't little. The sites are displaying normally again, the downloads no longer give a 404, there have also been a lot of fixes in the background of bugs which stopped the staff from doing work at all. So while I am not aware yet how far they proceeded, trust me that they are working on issues day and night.

much appreciated pille but what's being done about the 'klingon battlecruiser issue' ?
there are some dark corners that are quietly muttering that all this updating is really a cover-up for the missing klingon battle cruiser .

# 147I appreciate you looking into it.
It's on your latest 50 Legacy download list.
Here's the link:
http://legacy.filefront.com/file/Klingon_D_4_Battlecruiser;100138#Download

It ends up giving a compressed file with music in it.

Thanks a lot.

#152: The error indicates that no document of that kind is existing on JediKnight3Files. Seeing the "/info/Contact" tag however means that this was supposed to be a sub-page for contacting the site staff and is no network feature.

To contact modders and other members on the site please click on their name in a comment to use our mail forms, or try to look their contact details up in the forums.

I don't see how we could make these sites "iPod-friendlier", and our main concerns are currently to fix the issues still present as well as to bring this network up to modern standards. If and how this will affect your iPod is nothing I can predict but if at all it will only be a positive side-effect.

Hey, thanks for trying to UPDATE the site, read the word in capitals, pppl that say its a cover-up, although i can download every file i want to except BFXtreme!!! it's my first mod i want, and its driving me CRAZY! I think maybe instead of fixing the old files first, i think that FF should maybe concentrate on the newer files and go backwards??? After you've updated, of course. And i agree with #91, EAW files is my most visited site on FF. PLEASE UPDATE QUICKER, GODSPEED, guys.

#158: I don't think you completly got the image, when we updated FileFront it didn't really differ between "old" and "new" files being broken, they were both equally broken and fixed. One of those fixes has now brought the "wait 3 to 5 minutes and try again" issue up which is being worked on. We are fixing things as fast as we can - or more specifically, the tech team is - while our staff is out daily to find workarounds which has pretty much turned into our main duty during these upgrades.

So with all due respect, we work at the best speed possible and if you don't consider that enough (we are doing this on volunteer base after all) you're free to apply to the staff and show us how to make it better if you think you can do so.

#161: If you mean the issues, as I tried to explain above the problem is that a system outdated since years was all of a sudden pulled up to modern standards, which for the old hardware was a bit much to handle. You could call everything we're going through right now some sort of "system shock".

We know Roll Eyes (sarcastic)
Seriously ladies and gentlemen there is no need to report bugs that are listed in the actual news item.
Only report bugs here that are not listed in there that are directly effecting the sites.
Thanks

Can all these login problems be avoided if we just make new accounts?

My old login name (Acrobatc101) stopped working even for posting in threads like this one let alone logging in at the top. 3-4 days ago I could post comments here but suddenly that stopped working too.

I made a new one, and I can login within threads and post comments and login on the main page.

No do not make duplicate accounts. The tech guys know what the problem is but it is more indepth that first thought,
They are working on it and it will be fixed asap as this is there priority.

Just another reiteration:

We know what the problem is but it's proving harder to fix than once expected. The reason why members are having problems logging in, voting, and seeing who is online are all related to one problem. Once the one problem is fixed, everything else should be fixed.

Sorry about the inconvenience. The management at FilesNetwork cares about the community and their experience on the network.

Read 2 comments above yours, I'm getting incredibly tired of having to repeat things all the time because people are too lazy to scroll a few comments up.

Ronnie figured out how to fix the problem... In like 10 seconds actually. stick out tongue

The login problem is being fixed, but very slowly I might add. 664,854 members have to be fixed.

#177: Like Funsocks said in his comment, which is marked as official response and yet noone seems to bother reading it, the error has to be fixed for almost 700,000 members, one by one. Checking your User-ID which is 687107 shows that you will still have to wait a little. For everything else refer to the comments made by Goody and Mr. Funsocks.

Hurrah for a successful log-in! smile Hopefully site updates and improvements will allow for username and password changes! I've been stuck with my silly 2002 username and horribly difficult to remember password as it got reset when I joined as a staff member! hehe!
